Maya Lin.
She is not very productive landscape architect, or you could even argue about if she is strictly a landscape architect or not. But when I firstly read about her designs as a first year la student, my way of understanding about this profession just got completely shifted .(Before that I never really realised how powerful and stunning a…[Read more] -

Z wykonawców którzy zaczynają wprowadzać małe elementy z niej polecam Puczynsk…[Read more]

I love the shameless self promotion! Welcome to the club… : )
I also agree with Chris. Moving the subscription form above the fold will increase the number of subscribers.

Thomas,
I think your blog looks great. I like the clean, simple design. I also like your unique profile–so UNstuffy! My only suggestion would be to move your email and rss feeds up higher–you will probably get more subscribers. Well done!

One thing that you have to be careful of is that you have full contact with the slope surface or water gets under it and erodes material down hill which then gets deposited where contact between the mat and the surface slow the water. It can be a mess.
Jute netting also works well, but with bigger openings depending what you are using for…[Read more]

Oh you’re welcome, and yes that’s the idea. It’s used heavily in grass applications because the blades have no problem finding their way through. Plant plugs or even larger plants can be installed through the blanket by cutting an ‘X’ shaped incision in the blanket, pulling the flaps back, planting in, and then replacing the flaps around the…[Read more]

Not as simple as that actually. In New Zealand the Institute of Landscape Architects does not have rights and protection over the term ‘Landscape Architect’ so any landscape designer could still call themselves one. We also don’t have the same 5 year programme that north american universities use. You need to submit a portfolio of work and have an…[Read more]

This product looks good….the fibers seem to have the same form as the Enkamat which has a structure that seems like it’ll hold onto soil while allowing plants to grow through. Thanks!

Hi Jenny, I have to suggest Curlex Erosion Control Blanket, it’s manufactured in a variety of specifications but the basic ingredient is aspen fibers woven into a non-directional matrix.

Wow…there are several different takes on the subject. I always understood that a LD is more focused on Landscape Specific projects and is more into the asthetic and horticultural end of design (more plant based). Where as a LA is a licensed professional who has a broader scope of eduacation that covers LD and many other aspects of Site Planning.…[Read more]

What a hairy one. I’ve worked in both types of business. I wouldn’t like to pigeonhole myself in either profession personally. Urban design seems to be the new catch-cry in New Zealand. Especially in a recession, different professions are trying to grab more of the pie and doing all sorts of work they wouldn’t normally and probably shouldn’t.

Feels kinda odd that I am now cleaning and repairing the facilities that I designed and built a few years ago. Am looking for the light at the end of the tunnnel … so to speak, but it sure is dark in there! Acceptance of the situation is currently the hardest part of the entire process and I am getting tired of hearing “…well at least you have…[Read more]

Public areas are also Landscape Architects as a lot more documentation is required. Landscape Designers normally have more practical designs for family residential…[Read more]
