I can’t get past “cracking out”. Whether a typo or intentional, I’ve already used it on this call that won’t end. Thanks

Creating a TIN from that many contours would take quite a while… and the end result would likely be too big to be of much use in most models. If I was doing your project, I’d probably start by erasing about 90% of the contours, importing again to a new file, and seeing if the remainder looks reasonably close. Fewer 3D faces is the key to…[Read more]

You could write a chapter on the subject. The basics… Yes, you can (and should) have a standardized file you open for a new project that has all of your layers and their properties set up properly (weight, color, type, etc). The file should be locked so it doesn’t get altered. Then when you open it, “Save As” using the correct file name for your…[Read more]

Just remember to set up each project file a little bit differently from the next so that you are the only person who can possibly navigate them, thereby ensuring at least a few extra days on every project for your teammates to identify and solve archaic AutoCAD problems. I swear that’s what our surveyors and civils do. 😉

Well as much as I despise Greenpeace, this fellow is correct in his assertions about global warming. We definitely should be working on our level of consumption in terms of cutting down forests and such, but placing limits on CO2 emissions is just a money spinner and power trip by vested interests.. it just does nothing for us as a society, and…[Read more]

I’ve worked three ways for three different firms–sheet set manager (not worth time to set y
Up IMO), sheets as individual files (good if you have large team working on sheets simultaneously), and plot sheets file (as you described sheets in single file managed in layout tabs (cleanest IMO).I have an architect client now who thinks they’re…[Read more]

It’s not that you won’t get an answer, but I honestly don’t think of Land8 as the place to get cad help. Go to CADTutor and research this. There are tutorials that may explain what you want to know. Heck, post your question (let them know it’s for landscape) in the forums and you’ll get solid replies. Someone already posted the question, “[Read more]

What version of acad are you running? I would be concerned about potential compatibility issues between 2000 and whatever later version you’re on, especially if you and your coworkers are expected to work on the same set of documents. You might need to set up a system where the project base file is in 2000, and then you create sheets, xref the…[Read more]

I have not bothered with layer states in years. I and others whom I have worked with in the last 8 or ten years have been managing layers in viewports. … not sure where Acad 2000 was as far as sheet tabs or if it only had one paperspace.(they can’t get a newer ACAD?), but it would make your life easier to use separate tabs for each sheet and m…[Read more]

After posting links from various landarch, sustainable design and disc golf forums/blogs to my thesis, the positive response (mostly the disc golf community) prompted me to self publish and apply to present at the 2014 Denver ASLA Conference (awaiting decision).
I’ll be removing the thesis from issuu.com (where it was linked to from this…[Read more] -

That’s amazing-I guess the concerns of the past have faded in the post cholera era?! In my area septic systems are the largest nitrogen contributor to the rivers-except the occasional horse farm which spot contaminates the surface waters. The sewage treatment plants take some things out but not enough. Diversion permits between water tables and…[Read more]

Laura I have heard of the reed bed thing for effluent. There actually is some openness from the health dept folks here to talking about treating effluent with constructed wetlands.

Hi Miles,
I was just reading Permaculture Magazine(UK). Somebody was writing about using bamboo charcoal for drinking water filtration. I dont know if its better than plain wood charcoal.
Also there people have something called “reed beds” to handle their effluent. I wouldn’t think that would fly here with health dept regulations unless it was…[Read more] -

Maybe if you did something like this? I don’t know how an interface with a different alloy would affect the cathodic protection of the Cor-Ten, or vice versa (or if this kills your motif), but it’s a thought.

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Corten Steel Pavers in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 4 months ago
Excellent point about the finish. Underfoot, the protective coating of intentional corrosion will wear off and cause the next layer to rust. That, and the surface of Cor-Ten is quite fragile and the ‘rust’ will come off on user’s feat. Cor-Ten does not equal corrosion or rust-proof, it is a mix of alloys in the steel that intentionally corrode…[Read more]
