Kelly,
Of the dozen jobs I have had, I only got one through a traditional channel (advertised, interviewed etc), and it sucked. The best ones came from people I met while doing something else.
Great advice by everyone here–especially about networking and face time. I would add that your best channels are not the folks hiring, but the folks w…[Read more] -

“Urban Diaries” and “Blues & Jazz Landscape Improvisations” are two of his monographs you should look into. I recall one of his projects involving homeless – providing spaces for them as part of the public in a public park. One of the take-aways I learned was that not everyone needs to do everything in a public space, it’s ok that some spaces a…[Read more]

I was unaware of this function, but it appears to achieve the same end as using “ctrl+shift+c”, and specifying 0,0,0, (origin) as the basepoint, then pasting with the origin in the new drawing. I suppose that probably came up on the forum…

It seems that PASTEORIG function does not work in 2014. I couldnt make it happen, and I’ve seen posts on the autodesk forum complaining about the same thing.
I use that function a lot and can’t understand why it disappeared…

You might take a look at the search archive here: http://inhabitat.com/index.php?s=homeless
Since it’s just a search, you’ll probably have to weed through a few that just mention the word ‘homeless,’ but there are some really good projects in there.

Edward Flaherty? Wow! I made contact with you 15 years ago for a position in Saudi Arabia. I recall because I seriously considered moving overseas. Entry level work and I graduated with a BLA. We twice spoke on the phone and made several email exchanges. I ultimately decided to join HNTB in Baltimore. I still have the same Yahoo email address so…[Read more]

I kind of wish this conversation had continued. There’s not a lot of information out there about how landscape architects use revit (aside from this: http://ladcourses.blogspot.com/2013/04/lad202-bim-for-landscape-architecture.html). I’ve been learning mostly from a book called Revit 2014: No Experience Required, which is written from the p…[Read more]

Depending on the project, I usually start investigating what is available in the trade alongside what plants may be suitable. No point spending lots of time looking into plants you cannot get…. unless of course this is for the sheer joy of it.
So suitable plants for the USA may or may not help if you are working in Mexico -

As Barbara wrote (Hi Barbara!): depends on the desert.
I would add: depends on the style of landscaping. Do you want a horticulture based site to help with plant selection? Landscaping with native plants? Great landscape projects in desert locations?
What is the topic? -
Barbara Peterson replied to the topic desert landscaping in the forum STORY BOARD 12 years, 7 months ago
Depends on the “desert” that you are looking for. In addition to a Google search, you can also check the landscapeonline site: http://www.landscapeonline.com/research/article/16929 . The link takes you to their page which in this case lists some l.a. firms in New Mexico & Arizona…they were listed in the magazine prior to that year’s National…[Read more]

My office uses LandFX profusely. Very easy to use and keeps track of your projects until you archive them. You can setup templates and add symbols to the LFX library that are to your liking. IMO their real gem is their irrigation engine. I’ve tried other irrigation software like raincad; LFX trumps it. The price is up there, but pays it’s…[Read more]
