I am headed out of town to spend Christmas with my in laws, but I will touch base with my boss regarding the software. Do you have a price in mind? Just to clarify version 5 is before the subscription requirement right? Also does this version run on windows XP?
thanks again
Mark

Hi John
I am very interested in purchasing this software from you. I currently have version 3.0 and was planning on upgrading this winter to 6.0 and color – but am annoyed with the subscription requirement. Let me know if it is still available.
Thanks
Mark

Where is the problem?
In the very old days both was done by the Garden and Landscape Artist, strong background in horticulture and/or architecture.
When I graduated, in Germany, it was Garden and Landscape Architecture.
Look at it that way, when you blow-up a garden plan you have a great landscape plan. When you scale down a landscape plan to g…[Read more] -

The larger question should be for us to ask ourselves what or who is incubating this attitude? Do our educators or professional organizations foster this either inadvertantly or purposefully? Why is this?
Then we have garden designers wondering if landscape architects should begin to consider garden design in another thread.
I’ve said it a m…[Read more] -

Sounds like a bunch of students to me. Very counter productive for our precession indeed.

Those will be the t-shirts that are worn under the aprons of America’s future Starbuck’s baristas with attitudes like that.

The final question is odd, “do Land. Archs. already think they are qualified….”
We should be qualified to be garden designers after 4-5 years of specialized university training and a minimum of 3 years of intern. While to qualify as a garden designer you need to have a pulse and know what a plant is.
The problem that I see is that most people…[Read more] -

Hi Haley,
Thanks for the link – I have had a quick look at the site and downloaded the demo with some pdf files that they have.
We close for the end of the year on Friday until mid January but hopefully I will get a chance to have a look at it before then.

Dear Craig,
Have you looked into Scheduling Manager from Thoughtful Systems? They have a specific software for lawn care and landscaping business owners. The program is either desktop or cloud based, whichever you prefer. With the program you can do all of the things mentioned above including scheduling and tracking design work, scheduling and…[Read more] -

“I’m a landscape architect and I won’t design your garden.”
The fine print under that is “would you like fries with that, sir?”

Thank you both for your input.
Keeping things simple organized, and pure is indeed necessary.
True, Xrefing doesn’t allow for Civil functionality. Just two or so persons in my office use Civil 3D to it’s fullest. The rest of us in the office, myself -the new guy- in particular, focus on 2D drafting, creating standardized layers and styles…[Read more]

Andrew and Andrew, thanks for your replies. I’ve not had an issue with the WCS, but we still use 2012 so maybe that is a 2013 bug.
I understand the workflow that you both described, and it isn’t much different from what I’d expect from offices using 2D CAD. I was trying to figure out if sharing Civil 3D files created any unique problems. Naming…[Read more] -

Be prepared for the following if you take an entry level job in China:
- immense culture shock
- working at turbo to warp speed and the expectation that you do whatever it takes and spend however long to get that done
- working on projects that are beyond anything in scale and size that you will find here
- finding that your chinese equivalent, with a…
