I had the same problem, so i purchased parallels, worked for a while but couldn’t sent up or connected to the internet whilst in parallels(pc side), all in all it does work but you need patients as it can get fiddly.

From my experience the world of landscape arch. is dependent on a PC operating system… Mac’s are great for Adobe CS but otherwise PC will make your life easier. PC’s tend to be cheaper as well, but you will loose the sleek Mac design.
But if you’re still in school, try to take advantage of your school’s computers. They should have all the pr…[Read more] -

You hit the nail on the head with the stability problem. I think the only way I’d ever feel comfortable with this profession as a long term career is if I had a spouse with a stable job who was the sole breadwinner. And I’m not sure how going it alone as some suggest is the answer either, as you are still at the mercy of those feeding you p…[Read more]

On a Mac you can run both both Mac and windows operating systems without partitioning the hard drive using parallels or VMware fusion. I use VMware fusion on both my iMac and MacBook without any loss of speed.

I was at a conference a couple of years ago where, in an aside, one of the speakers told a story about how he and a fellow student (back in the 80s) read through every word of every issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine from the 20s and 30s. It turns out that the magazine did not contain a single mention of the Great Depression (or anything…[Read more]

I am so sick of these silly partisan blogs I literally feel ill reading them. The debate was a complete joke. Obama was half asleep and romney busted out every goodie in the book as obama took notes. Convince me not to throw my vote away on a third party candidate.

Chances are, a few us who have posted to this forum topic watched the first debate. I read a considerable amount of follow-up post debate analysis the next day and checked into one my favorite economic and finance columnists, Jon Talton from the Seattle Times. The title of his debate critique is ….

Hi Sofia,
You’re installation at the London Festival of architecture looked very cool. And I really enjoy your idea for the Washington monument. The thought to change a landscape based on the users reaction is very interesting and is in-line with what I think the current technology can easily do. Thanks for adding that. I would be interested in…[Read more]

Just read an article on Homeland Security spending and how little of that money goes towards fighting terrorism. I found it frustrating to see the consensus that we shouldn’t expect the funding to be cut because of the political power it brings to the representatives of each state. Both democrats and republicans are guilty of this. I do think…[Read more]

Jordan:
I share your viewpoint about how (and if) a viable third party may eventually be spawned from the two current political parties that have become completely compromised and corrupted by big money and all that it commands.
I actually think that Republicans will spin out-of-control and splinter first. This will probably degenerate into…[Read more] -

John, I use Microsoft Project at work. It’s a little daunting at first. But once you start playing with it, it’s fairly intuitive. I also downloaded an iPad app called SG Project Pro. It’s expensive for an iPad app. $40. But it seems comparable to Project and it’s a lot cheaper too. I haven’t started playing with it yet, but I’m going to run my…[Read more]

John, I would recommend Include Software’s Asset if you are within the design/build realm…or you may also want to take a look at Fasttrack by AEC Software for project management within the LA’s construction document production process.
