hmm… that is strange. I really don’t know why that would be. Maybe you had a lot of crapware running in the background while you were using autocad? How about sketchup? Does it run slower too?

My prediction is that if O gets reelected we’ll continue on a slow steady recovery and nothing very spectacular will happen. If R-squared gets elected, we’ll be in a war with Iran by next year, all talk of the national debt will be thrown out the window and we’ll be on the hook for another unfunded war, federal funding will obviously be…[Read more]

So…. why is a third centrist party out of the question?
We have never had one. Maybe it’s time. -

Hi Ernst,, just for you….
Sorry about the poor attempt at humor–the photo looked like a glam shot to me and I couldn’t resist.
I did not mean to suggest a forgery, or to demean anyone’s enthusiasm about this subject.

We need to learn how to develop this in our staff…just finding hard, reliable workers is challenging enough. :/

Laburnum in the local park with wisteria and ash on a metal framework. This was a walled garden to a cluniac priory. Because a few children suffered and the public became newly aware – for their generation – of the poisonous nature especially of the seeds, which little children might think were peas or sweets, many were cut from suburban g…[Read more]

I am sure many of us think that…and I know that many of the people that would be involved in making an actual difference don’t have time to post about it on Land 8 Lounge. The world has no shortage of people willing to sit back and point out what needs to happen, what we need are people who will go out to local government meetings and become…[Read more]

Thanks Andrew. Some of those exhibits are exactly what I was thinking of. Not permanent but they look like they could be incorporated into a permanent site. Looks like it would be a great event to visit!

Dr. MACdonald:
Glad to see your out there and still opinionated as ever. Your searing and piercing humor was much missed and a very welcome comeback. Keep it up compadre.

The expression of our opinions ( e.g. political, professional, product-oriented, trend-spotting) here will not make an atomic particle of difference, will not slow glacial ice melt or cause the inclination of the spin of this planet to noticeably shift.
So does those make the expression of those opinions any less legitmate and worthy of a…[Read more]

I think a lot of the independents you see could be moderate republicans jumping ship. I was in fact a republican in 2000 and am now a registered independent that is decidedly more democratic leaning.

Working my best to be apolitical…I would say not much would change. If the wealthy get tax cuts…does that really increase their spending needs? Have they been holding back on spending? Not so much. And since I am not convinced that keep taxes low or reducing taxes on the wealthy creates more jobs for the middle class, again, not much change.…[Read more]

I think what he is saying is more about pragmatism then idealism. Of course having the opportunity to work with multiple designers and feed off of each other is wonderful. But when we see post after post of people looking for work, do we finally come around to the assumption that those getting to do it are the ones doing it for themselves? No one…[Read more]

A third party is great as long as it replaces one of the existing parties. I believe the Republican party was founded as a third party around the time Lincoln was elected(primarily it was anti-slavery) and that is a great example of how a new party can change the world. Unfortunately the republicans are being slapped by change currently and are…[Read more]

Mark:
I also long for what you hope to happen. I think many, many Americans also do, if for nothing else than to have a real clear and stark choice. It seems that third parties that have any staying power and actually do prevail in a democracy-oriented election process only get there through major societal upheavals or disruptions, be they s…[Read more]

Three things will happen:
1. the loosing party will come to the wrong conclusion that they did not go far enough to the left/right
2. the winning party will come to the wrong conclusion and decide they have a mandate to go further to the left/right.
3. we will deal with the debt, or it will deal with us. either way, both parties will blame ea…[Read more] -

Well, I think some people do self-select out, but you have to remember that as you go back in time, there were fewer and fewer of us out there in the past (due to a continuing upward trend in numbers of schools and graduates over time). That is, perhaps many more of the “old people” did stay in the field on a percentage basis than might appear.
