I don’t see many old people as support staff. They are either management or the principal. What happens to those who are not so good in business, or those who are not good at being “the face” of the company? Do they remain as designers, the people who work behind the scenes? Or do they get kicked out and replaced by younger designers?

Hi Mark, just for you:
Golden chain tree is a small deciduous tree or large shrub that is noted for its pendulous axillary racemes of yellow, wisteria-like flowers that bloom in spring. It is a hybrid cross between L. alpinum and L. anagyroides. It typically grows 25-30’ tall as a tree and 15-20’ tall as a shrub. Trifoliate, clover-like, med…[Read more] -

I’d love to keep it under $600 but that is seeming not possible. I actually purchased (2) laptops for under $500 in the last week and have had to return them both. Both have had ADM processors, both have been over 2 Ghz, with dedicated graphics cards, and at least 4 GB of ram, but for whatever reason both are running AutoCAD slower than my 5…[Read more]

What’s your budget? If it’s not much, then an entry-level AMD would be better than the entry-level Intel. In the mid and pro range, Intel (i5 and i7) preforms better in tests.

I have an Intel core i7 in my laptop and an AMD Athlon II X4 640 in my desk top using ACAD LT 2012 in both with no issues. I don’t use sketchup that often, but have not experienced problems with either when I do. I use the desk top far more than the laptop for what that is worth.

very well said Andrew…I don’t know where the idea that they have to be mutually exclusive came from…I guess that’s what is being taught these days.

Necessity does not displace creativity. Creativity is what needs to be used to solve problems. It is not limited to unbridled whims.
When necessities are overlooked in order to be expressive it is a lack of creativity. It is no different to ignore the parameters of an office or a market place than it is to ignore a soil condition or c…[Read more] -

It IS sort of a trade-off. On the employee side, you have to do whatever the sales force brings in (and you may even get drawn into being part of the sales force) plus you don’t have any security when the times are rough.
On the consulting side, you may also have to do whatever you can find, but you can “steer” yourself a bit and downturns may…[Read more]

If we had about a dozen political parties we could each have our own ideal political candidate. Fortunately in America for the most part we have taken and merged all these smaller parties into two big parties. Where we are forced to compromise in the party before we even get to election day.

Sounds like if you want to last in this field, you have to give up on being creative and become more of a business man/woman. That’s a shame because I enjoy getting my hands dirty and making things.

My opinions can at times be diametrically opposed from each other, and I know this about myself. I do not however want others to use them against me, so I tend to stay on the quiet side of the conversation.
I began a number of relplies to statements made in this thread, but deleted them when I realized they were (a) pushing the subject further…[Read more] -

Wait, so you’re suggesting that in a system where compromise is not a factor there could be a “perfect candidate”?
I can’t wrap my head around how all of those things come together. Except perhaps a military coup, the Nazi take-over of Germany, Khmer Rouge, etc. Those examples enable a “perfect candidate” to get where he is going without…[Read more] -

Very good point and statement. I have swung around to full convergence on your viewpoint.
Nevertheless, I think this was a useful “sounding board ” forum to gauge willing participants political ideologies, if they could keep it both respectful and on track. If I recall an earlier statement by you, you stated you were one with strong opinions an…[Read more] -
