The Civil 3D feature lines work a lot like SketchUp lines, interacting with each other as you raise/lower them. Just keep items you don’t want interacting in different “sites”, much like SketchUp groups and you’ll be fine. Civil 3D has many useful tools for editing the feature lines, such as by slope, by reference surface (“draping” on ex…[Read more]

The first requirement to be a Republican is a susceptibility to self-hypnosis. Right now, millions of Republicans are hypnotizing themselves to like Mitt Romney, who is neither conservative nor Christian nor authentic nor possessed of the common touch. He is completely foreign to the base or core of the Republican Party. Therefore, the hypnosis…[Read more]

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! Yes, really.

YES!! We don’t want to go back to that delusional 5% unemployment rate which lasted…a mere 9 months. The Bush tax cuts account for almost 30% of the current federal deficit. During those 8 years, we saw the largest income disparity between the middle class vs top 2% wage earners in U.S. history. The housing crisis slowly began in Fall of 2007.…[Read more]

Voter suppression? It’s happening in several states!! Ohio, Wisconsin, PA, SC and two others I can’t recall at this moment. Easy to search it. It’s the GOP’s way of limiting the Pres Obama voters. With Mittens latest snafu…he’s making his own grave.

Jordan, you are not reading about the voter supression efforts of the GOP? Two cases at least have gone to court – the GOP writing rules that limit times that voting places are open (less time in Democratic counties), requireing photo id ‘s that have an expiration date – I beleive at least two of these rules have been thrown out of court, so if…[Read more]

Do you have access to Civil 3D? You have the most control that way & then could export either a TIN or breaklines (feature lines in Civil 3D) into your rendering program of choice. Might be overkill if you don’t need survey-level accuracy, though.

I am importing topo data from CAD. I also need to “drape” other CAD lines onto the terrain. I know how to do it in SU, but I have recently started using 3ds max and didn’t know if there was a big advantage to creating the terrain in that program or just building everything in SU and importing. thanks!

Are you importing CAD drawings or starting from scratch?

It was good (although I don’t think many of us work across all the variety of challenges he mentioned; the whole body of us may do that)….however, there is a risk to encouraging people to think “if it’s outside, it was designed by a landscape architect.” We think we’re under-recognized, which is true, but I’ve seen rants and raves about awful…[Read more]

Architects design indoor spaces.
Landscape architects design outdoor spaces.

One of the best and way-too-brief attempts I have read that successfully gets across, in a clear, concise (short!) compelling way, the wide spectrum of skills and talents our profession calls for and demands.
Thanks for sharing this.

Is it any wonder we are playing a guessing game about a possible Republican administration?
State republicans ran on economy and budget in 2010, and they gave us union busting, abortion restrictions, and voter suppression. Not exactly truth in advertising. -

You said it there. The conditions vary on this project between the north and south side so exposure to the elements has driven the majority of our design decisions. I have two calls into Cornell (no response), I am going to contact Rutgers today as they developed a mix named Predator that may be feasible.
I will let you know how that goes.
