Cliff See replied to the topic Politics and Professional Practice – keep it to yourself or wear your heart on your sleeve? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 3 months ago
hi, best to avoid heated opinions that do not pertain to the task at hand… having patience is sublime and simple, the greatest of all inaction…
its okay to discuss politics politely with an open mind, but i never let political views get in the way of friendships and professional relationships… after all, we are grown up enough to think for…[Read more]

hi i’m cliff, although i dont work for a firm at the moment either, i would say a good way to advance yourself “within a company” then of course is taking on responsibility that others don’t want, you will get promoted and be admired for taking on tough challenges.
it also depends on your taste, and where you want to commit your skills, maybe its…[Read more]

Cliff See replied to the topic Artificial or Real turf for public spaces? in the forum DETAILS & MATERIALS 14 years, 4 months ago
hi, i really enjoy the local football field near my place, after jogging i STRETCH out on the artificial grass… very comfortable! no mowing, or irrigation. maybe it should be in many more places (including yards).
the beauty of it bears fruit when you rest on the turf, all the while you know there arent bugs or soggy ground beneath you… it’s…[Read more]

This is also true, the part about besting the architect… one great reason why L/A’s should never lose touch with quick hand graphics – you might just whip out a loose, quick design, black/white, straight lines with quick shadows too, a simple concept and to the point (L/A’s are good at that)… very fast idea you can show first.
let nature…[Read more]

i think some things this guy said is plain true… the person with the money is the boss, good ideas can come and go in their mind… We also are fantastic Site Architects.
Just remember our egos can get in the way of many things, including the budget… there will always be a place for a good, solid, do-able idea, if not there maybe at your next…[Read more]

Cliff See replied to the topic Green Streets in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 14 years, 4 months ago
I have just seen a major street near where i live (in Berkeley / El Cerrito in California) has been revamped… There are water basins up and down both sides with plantings – they are taking the place of the standard planted trees and tree grates. there are twice as many as were before. Not sure who you could contact, maybe the city hall. The…[Read more]

hi I’m Cliff, doubt it is possible, but does anyone know how difficult it would be for a middle age guy from California to get a land/arch job in Phil? i have always wanted to go there, after knowing some of the many friendly Filipino people here in US… Wonder if there will be any companies think about hiring Americans? thanks for your help..

Cliff See replied to the topic Advice in getting a teaching position in the forum EDUCATION 14 years, 5 months ago
hi there.. beyond networking, you may also want to try teaching at the ‘extension’ courses at your local college. Here in Berkeley we have UC Extension… college courses that offer certificates and classes in many areas including landscape arch/design and community colleges too… some schools may call these adult courses and what not.
The point…[Read more] -

Cliff See replied to the topic MLA needed now for an Entry Level Job? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 5 months ago
Hi, I may have part of your answer: It appears you are located in a university town (Athens, Ga) or at least near one, as am I… located in Berkeley, Ca, (UC Berk)… These cities have MLA’s graduating every year, looking for jobs in the area before they move on to another place. Therefore the employer can advertise for this seemingly endless…[Read more]

Cliff See replied to the topic what the mainly software used to make 3d? in the forum TECHNOLOGY 14 years, 5 months ago
yeah that’s what i am thinking… other than SketchUp, the learning curve on 3D max has got to be significant, and to just keep up with maintaining those computer skills seems a bit stifling, and cost to own them all… it seems the rendering programs such as 3D max are more for architecture/interior animation. Not sure why a client would want to…[Read more]

hmmm, i enjoy good ground cover too… almost anything can be considered invasive, rarely is there a balance, somethings win, somethings lose, it is a matter of the quality of care.
Nature has its own way (ie your meadow and forest)… but we landscape architects don’t re-create nature… we ultimately design for humans, with nature in mind,…[Read more] -
