I fully agree and this can not be emphasized enough, a redundant degree in L Arch following a undergrad degree is pretty disappointing. Unless, you are looking to change fields or expand your field. You could get a masters in Arch. or something that is somewhat related, so that your undergrad is still a bonus to have. Otherwise, I would recommend…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Is Shipping Container Architecture Going to Last, or is it just a fad? in the forum PLACES & SPACES 11 years, 9 months ago
Wouldn’t a nice double-wide trailer be a much better home than a stack of storage containers? The modular double wides are really starting to look much nicer.

Figure out what you want your day to day life to be. Most firms have someone that you can talk to and ask for an informational tour of their office. This will give you a flavor of both. When I was in school they said something like half of the graduates will not ever be traditional Architects, so maybe you want to look at what related fields you…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Pervious Parking: What Type of Plant to Use? in the forum PLANTS & HORTICULTURE 11 years, 11 months ago
I am in Minnesota so I do not know specific plants for Atlanta. Generally Moss is not a terrible idea if it grows naturally. I always try to work with what the site gives me instead of forcing my design to fit the conditions. So if the site gives you shade with moisture maybe moss is great. If the site is more open to sun, there are grasses that…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Should landscape architecture contemplate the inclusion of garden design as an additional field of activity? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 11 years, 11 months ago
The final question is odd, “do Land. Archs. already think they are qualified….”
We should be qualified to be garden designers after 4-5 years of specialized university training and a minimum of 3 years of intern. While to qualify as a garden designer you need to have a pulse and know what a plant is.
The problem that I see is that most people…[Read more] -

Not sure I am following your argument. So if you want smaller government you should vote for democrats who are apologetically for larger government.

It is interesting to watch the pendulum swings that are inevitable in this style of government. We have a great system and though it is frustrating, no one wins and no one loses every time.

So bush liked to spend, but in half the time Obama has spent the same amount. If the republicans keep working for smaller government it will help to keep in check the unprecedented expansion and corresponding loss of liberty that the Obama democrats would like.
You will find that as the government has more and more control over your life, that the…[Read more] -

Sorry Trace once again you find yourself thinking that the republican stance is no government at all. I doubt that the majority of either party is at the extremes that everyone fears. Yes there is a place for public assistance in natural disasters, but the federal government can not and should not fix it all.
Yes republicans live in a matrix of…[Read more] -

It is worth the time to listen. Too bad I have to share the roads with people like this. My favorite part is when she suggests combining deer and school crossings.

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic geotextile under inorganic mulch in the forum TECHNOLOGY 12 years, 1 month ago
This is as argued a philosophy as how much of the wire basket to remove when planting trees. I feel with organic mulch that you are essentially making new soil as the mulch piles up on the planting bed. While inorganic mulches are not top dressed as liberally and do not break down. On an organic mulch bed you are essentially left with soil on top…[Read more]

A third party is great as long as it replaces one of the existing parties. I believe the Republican party was founded as a third party around the time Lincoln was elected(primarily it was anti-slavery) and that is a great example of how a new party can change the world. Unfortunately the republicans are being slapped by change currently and are…[Read more]

If we had about a dozen political parties we could each have our own ideal political candidate. Fortunately in America for the most part we have taken and merged all these smaller parties into two big parties. Where we are forced to compromise in the party before we even get to election day.
