  • Hostile? People in here are generally pushovers and soft. On occasion, people become passionate about certain subjects and methods of producing their work. I’m not sure what your idea of ‘hostile’. For the most part, we may disagree but comments are respectful. Now, I don’t even have to view your profile to know you’ve never dealt with finicky…[Read more]

  • The fee is insane! You can take most, if not all of those programs through your own university or local community college. The Art department usually offers such courses for undergrads. I learned Photoshop, Illustrator and a host of other softwares thru my Art department at Univ of Idaho.

  • Folks, I said this already. The homeless do not pay taxes or vote! End of story. Any kind of shelters being build will have to primarily come from private donations. No elected officials are going to channel taxpayers money into building several homeless shelters when our schools and infrastructure are crumbling down. Not happening. The VA and…[Read more]

  • Simple: the homeless does not pay taxes or vote…well, most of them and this being a huge reason they are ignored. Cities don’t think long term solutions and just close down areas where homeless accumulate. They then go to another part of city and the process starts all over.

  • Jordan,
While there are valid arguments on both sides, but I can’t think of any good reason to start designs, any design, on a computer. Maybe this is the reason for an over abundance of cookie cutter designs seen today. Those younger people you refer to are usually getting drawn up designs on paper to place in Cad. Also, there’s no way they can…[Read more]

  • Andrew,
CLARB is smart, but not smart enough! So they won’t use it. You see the latest Apple earnings post? You were right, why am I working? My Apple, Netflix, eBay, Las Vegas Sands, Valero energy, Ford and Sirius radio stocks going through the roof. Level 3 Comm and Alcoa will soon follow.

  • Soon to be grads don’t need to be taking the exam. Period. Worry about getting a job first, then keeping it for more than 2 years. What’s with our “microwave” thinking society? Not everything is instant results. Learn about site planning, construction detailing and project management before taking the exam. I believe this is why there is such a…[Read more]

  • I’m sure its more about “little pay” than anything else. The experienced LAs who accept an “entry level salary” may get work over recent grads. I haven’t read the article. Mail in Hawaii is usually…like most things…a day or two behind the mainland. What if you break it down by geographic region in U.S. or international work?

  • Craig and Andrew, I have new found respect for you two clowns! (calling you clown is a compliment). You two opened up details of your daily lives. Land8 is therapeutic amid all the chaos around our profession. I do have my foot dipped into the pool of entrepreneurship, but not fully committed. I was at a crossroads in late 2007 between staying in…[Read more]

    Tim,
You need to look at page 1 at my “original” response. It was simple and to the point. I didn’t attack anyone or make cute, Starbucks comments. You PC users seem to think Mac users are superior, when its also vice versa. Your “Starbucks” comment was a subtle way of looking down at Mac users.
The latest comments from people in here should put…[Read more]

Anthony, I said “some of us have jobs to do” didn’t specifically imply you. I read people’s profiles and all of their comments before making a rebuttal. Call it misinterpretation on your behalf. My links show what most PC window users don’t know about Apple computer as a company. But, I bet a lot of these guys own an iPod. I gotta run, instead of…[Read more]

    Tim,
Do you just read 1 or 2 comments, then form your own conclusions? Read this trend from start to finish, don’t just come in with your great wisdom in the middle of the discussion. Judging from where you work, I can see why you have bottled up frustrations! Haha! I’ve known 2 people in the past who worked in your office and absolutely hated…[Read more]

Andrew, I already pointed this out in a previous comment. Autocad for Macs is not complete and evolving. Give it time. Remember when Autocad was version 12 or 14 and Windows was 95? Its the first version, let them work out the kinks.
The funny part is I don’t even own a Mac right now. The one you saw at our studio in school was my first and only…[Read more]

Really, Jared? Are that close-minded? Apple is only second to ExxonMobil in total market value. Walmart, GM, Ford…below Apple. Mac is Apple and apparently the company doesn’t innovate? Okay…you win. In addition to market share $$, Apple also leads the way in Most Admired Company for 2011 and have always been in top 5. That’s 4 straight years…[Read more]

    Anthony,
“That secret attitude” has also put Apple number one in world for overall market share. As of today, the figures between Apple and Microsoft in this link are wider. I stated earlier, don’t confuse Apple computer “the company” with the Mac “the computer” as most critics tend to do. PC advocates gather the entire industry against one…[Read more]

Alex, whoa there fellow Mac enthusiast. Those comments were in response to Jared the subway spokesman. Look at where it is “placed.” This is one of the greatest problems with communicating by emails and posts. Things get out of whacked!

I seriously doubt the opinions of a “student” who calls himself a “landscape architect” and I believe it’s been debated in here already. What happened? You go from a Grad student to Landscape Architect overnight, huh?
All this discussion cracks me up. I’ll respond in due time. Some of us have real jobs to do whether its using a Mac or PC computer,…[Read more]

Obviously you are getting your info from Autodesk’s Mac support and services page which show what cad features are not available in Autocad for Mac. Since you don’t use Macs, you don’t really know its limitations in first hand experience. Show some patience. This is the first year Autodesk made Autocad available on the latest Mac OX. Lenovo??! That’s like driving only a Chevy Aveo and calling it best car in the world. All the souped up PCs I see on Best Buy or PC World are also $2k and up. Lenovo products last about 13 months tops before it blows up. A current Mac laptop would still be in use 100 years from now…with no upgrades and virus free.

  • mauiBob replied to the topic Macs Vs PCs in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 5 months ago

You don’t know any Mac virus because there’s virtually none out there, unlike the PC world. Just trying to clear up your earlier comment. You could never be a Mac user; its not in your DNA. Although, you probably own an iPod. That’s because your computer department is backed up by Windows based companies. ArcMap is given to Universities for free…[Read more]
