That’s because Macs don’t break down and why upgrade when the Mac you originally purchased is already superior? That’s why you pay more for upfront cost on a Mac and save later. Less overall upgrades!!!
So you buy 2 or 3 Windows based machines and say it cost you less than 1 Mac? Beautiful. -

You do realize that Autocad is now in Mac version?

Oohh really? These were the very same arguments from PC users when I was in school from 1993 to 1998. Name at least “2” computer viruses for Macs while I give you 10 for PCs. I seriously doubt your grad student story. Again, you are the misinformed about the cost of Macs. You pay more upfront, but save in the long run. There’s also this theory…[Read more]

Jon,
Most Graphic design and advertising shops use Macs. You have the rare PC that is still running after 5 years without any hiccups. How many times has it been infested with a computer virus? That’s the problem with the PC, you have to “build a top of the PC” to equal a pre-packaged Mac. Compare oranges to oranges and most people do not know how…[Read more] -

What “few things” has Obama done right, Roland? Lets see the so-called changes we can believe in: Extended the Bush tax cuts for the ultra rich, Gitmo is alive and well, the mid-east wars continue, Wall Street never got any reform, and he behaved like Bush by getting into the Libya mix. Now we are on the verge of spending millions of $$ on the war…[Read more]

The new version of Autocad for Macs cost as much as the PC edition.
I would buy a Mac. You buy more upfront, but you save in long run. There’s constant Windows upgrades and anti-virus installs, etc. And Macs last longer, just look it up at Consumer Reports. Even PC Magazine had an average Macs ranked number 2. Their highest ranked computer was…[Read more] -

Forget Pres Obama’s Green jobs! He had his chance to make changes “we can believe in”. All we got is more of the same, including expanding foreign wars! As long as the GOP is smart enough to elect a viable candidate, Obama is one and done. Jimmy Carter = Barack Obama.

Henry, you got that right!! Vietnam war shortly ended after the draft was reinstated. When you start to force kids from wealthy families into war, that’s when our elected officials usually feel the heat. They had a segment on this topic during the show ‘Morning Joe’ recently. They read the most recent casualties in Afghanistan and all of the…[Read more]

WOW!! From San Diego (my favorite city on earth) to San Fran area? Too many to list. Getty Center in L.A. is a nice start. Visit the Irvine Spectrum where highways I-5 & 405 meet in Irvine. I worked on that shopping mall as a Cadd and sketch monkey. Monterey and Carmel is a treat on its own.
Have fun! -

Thomas, I heard the same type of good comments coming from Bernie Madoof’s clients!. A 10 minute office tour isn’t enough. Its sort of like a lunch date with an attractive female and afterward you think she’s the one! You were feeling down and vulnerable, so JB gave some helpful advice. A better boost is offering you a position. I’ll stop there so…[Read more]

nrschmid, You’re so passionate about marketing, resumes and portfolios as much as I am about the stock market and investments!! No wonder you are leaving the profession of landscape architecture/planning. I would too if I didn’t have such a secure and well paid position.
You give great advice…something I may be reluctant to do since I’m always…[Read more] -

You got that right! Every year, EDSA always seem to be hiring these entry level types by posting on ASLA. I wonder where the hires from 3 or 4 years ago are now? If they laid them off, then why not rehire them? Because entry level equals lower pay!!

Best? Depends on how you define it. Its not like an athletic event when the “best” team wins the Superbowl or World Series. I agree with many of the comments, especially the “feeding their ego” by Chris. My “best” is where I am and making a decent living with no layoffs! Having worked at large and small firms, both private and public practice…I…[Read more]

Nicketo, “You can’t win the lottery unless you buy a ticket.”
However, like Thomas said above, stock market is not even close to a lottery. Those who don’t fully understand the markets make such comments. Someday you will come to understand. Andrew, my normal retirement age is still 30 years away! I don’t think my current $$ in Roth IRA is enough to live on for next 30 years. It rounds out to roughly a little over $46k a year…assuming I stay healthy and stay clear of any other emergencies. Nevertheless, my recent purchases in 2009 of Ford Motors, Sirius radio, Vonage, Alcoa, Las…[Read more]

Okay, so decades ago some pencil pusher decides it was “unethical” to advertise any A & E firms to tv and radio? Who made this guy king? Honestly, if I had my own shop, I would advertise locally on radio and maybe a one or two spot tv commercial. It would be much more entertaining than any local pizza shop commercial. I don’t give a hoot what ASLA…[Read more]

Give me a break! The concept plan will NEVER be built that way. When value engineering and the question “How we pay for it?” comes in to play…many of these grand ole’ ideas will be on the chopping block or phased in 20 year increments. Three words: Invest in Stocks! I’ve mentioned this already a few months ago and gave some stock advice. Those stocks are up as of today by at least 40%. Unless you own your own business, landscape architects working for someone are NEVER going to be wealthy. Yes, some top management positions do make a good living but only to a select few. Think…[Read more]
