I really like this last reply Thomas, as well as your first.
I really do take notice when a design or sketch of mine “feels off.” I try to really focus on what is making me feel that way, and brainstorm/sketch new ideas until I arrive at a solution that I feel confident in. It’s very important, as Vanessa said, for the space to feel very natural…[Read more]

Theodore Tegen replied to the topic does germany landscape the autobahns? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 2 months ago
When I was there last, ~2 yrs ago or so, I noticed several habitat bridges along the way. They’re pretty interesting to read about. They are essentially designed to reduce the wildlife habitat fragmentation that occurs along with the building of major habitat barriers like autobahns/freeways. Theodore Tegen replied to the topic Question – How many of you use GIS? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 2 months ago
I work for a multi-discipline firm and we have our own dedicated Natural Resources staff who use it quite often. So in answer to your question, I do not. Many of their projects with Minnesota DNR and Soil/Water Resources Board require its use, I am only occasionally involved with those projects.

It is one of those things that puts you ahead of the competition, or at least on par with the competition when it comes to vying for projects. However, when you…[Read more]

It’s not off the beaten path by any means, but the holocaust memorial in the heart of the city is really something. Getting down inside the monument really gives one an eerie feeling of loneliness. Very compelling public art/architecture.

Theodore Tegen replied to the topic What is your favourite software for estimating construction costs? in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 14 years, 4 months ago
I don’t use anything special beyond a custom spreadsheet in ms excel. I fill the spreadsheet with pricing knowledge gained over the years. I update this periodically based on bid tabulations that I receive from contractors for various projects. I’m sure someone will chime in, but I don’t even know of any landscape specific estimating software.
