Just to play devils advocate, I personally love the sight of a huge tree in a small urban space, I think it gives the space a true- er scale – I second the vote for a Gingko, they have great bark when they get old, and if you have a teeny space don’t clutter it up with a lot of teeny plants..

Walk over from Brooklyn to Manhattan, as everyone has said, on the Brooklyn Bridge, (it’s a really dramatic walk, really awesome) and then go on up the west side, through Battery Park, to all the incredible parks on the West Side, one after the other, on the waters edge – including the High Line, of course, which is a couple of blocks or so in f…[Read more]

That still doesn’t prove that union contributions exceed GOP donor contributions – Sheldon Adelson alone bankrolled Gingrich’s entire bid for the presidency this time. The numbers don’t compare. And yes, it may be nice for you to see your congressman, but it would be nice if they could treat each other like humans, and I think this sleeping in…[Read more]

Unions were the largest anonymous donors? Where does that come from? I call BS on that.
The trouble with this kind of stuff is that most people really can’t hear the opposing viewpoints, and don’t want to. The fact that there has not been one documented case of voter fraud, but systemic voter supression efforts on the part of the GOP will not…[Read more] -

Jordan, you are not reading about the voter supression efforts of the GOP? Two cases at least have gone to court – the GOP writing rules that limit times that voting places are open (less time in Democratic counties), requireing photo id ‘s that have an expiration date – I beleive at least two of these rules have been thrown out of court, so if…[Read more]

you know, Landplanner, I have always found the narrative of the Wash. D.C. design to be it’s weaknes – I know the family sued for years to have the depiction of the youthful FDR removed, and I think the entire design revolves around one large tree..To me, that is weak. I prefer abstraction.
But this is like a big urinal and skateboarder park,…[Read more] -

If you want political argument, there are TONs of web sites – Slate gets pretty lively, Salon, you can comment on the NYT web site – and on and on..And man, does it get low pretty quick.

Never one step, is what we learned – it’s weak design, and a trip hazard – and I disagree with Danile Miller, two 3″ risers are better than one six inch riser Two three-inches sound nice. Don’t know where you go the idea that to risers is veboten, Stephanie – for the pace issue, two is definitely preferabel to one.

Thanks for posting, Doug. The writer seems to have very muddied thinking, IMHO.
