Oklahoma State University – Larchitects 15 years, 8 months agoI know Stephen, but you do in the real world ALOT. It is on the LARE and it is easier to keep it fresh than to have to go back and relearn it without a professor’s patience.

Andrew G you are always full of great advice. People reading – take notes.
Part time work is still work with a foot in the door. Pride can make you walk around with blinders on.
I am doing dishes, maintaining the property and being an all around work horse for whatever and whoever around my office. -

To the unemployed. I feel your pain my mom and brother were both just laid off.
On a positive note there are many short term innovative competitions out there with cash awards. Get a group together in your area that are in the same boat and create a design team. This will allow you to work on design projects with others in related fields and stay…[Read more]

Go to local architectural, landscape architectural, and civil firms and ask if they have any unused drafting tables that they would sell. With the Auto CAD age there are many tables that have been put into storage to make room for a few more bodies in the office. I would start there and who knows you may find a gem.

I personally have lived in and around a artist neighborhoods and public parks with great implementation of free walls and graffiti friendly zones (Santa Fe area-Denver, and Dallas arts district) and know that they can work as an addition to the identity of the neighborhood. I would not limit yourself to strictly LA work either. Check with city orgs for any related field that would allow you to work, make money and gain work experience. I agree it is more than likely a waiting game. In the meantime get LEED certified, study for the LARE, or fine tune those graphics and program knowledge.Vance Hall
