No – since august 2009.
Someone stated the job search as demoralizing, it certainly feels that way sometimes.
My opinion and talking with others, I believe it will be another year or so before it feels like everyone is back in the swing of things. I hope its not longer and I hope the profession doesn’t lose quality professionals.

I totally agree with you, I don’t see ASLA really getting down to seek opportunities for L.A. from the AEC sector or any other market place. They ought to be advertising our abitlities in other Trade mags. E-zines, Web site dedicated to BIM/SIM(Site Information Modeling) etc… It’s a joke that so few job posting are in our ASLA web site. That’s…[Read more]

Hey,
I’ve been unemployed in Southern Florida for 11 months and finally have a client. It’s a good start but I’m continually seeking new ways I can upgrade my skill set, and locate new clients. Its a challenge for sure.
Best of luck
Jim

Residential Design Group 16 years, 3 months agoPhil,
Ditto Dan comments on experience, common sense and to use your company history on previous Construction estimates. I would add to his list, network(social) with local contractors and ask them for their input. Some will be glad to help out and others may not, you never know until you ask. Good Luck

Residential Design Group 16 years, 3 months agoPhillip,I have seen several programs over the years and have not been a big favorite of any of them so far. I have been in d/b for almost 28 years. I have worked in the field and behind the desk and I know how long it takes to plant a 4″ tree etc. including the stop at 7-11 for a big gulp and traffic, waiting for the semi to deliver the sod or…[Read more]

Residential Design Group 16 years, 3 months agoHi, I’ve recently started working for a small residential design/build company and I’m wondering how other people go about estimating construction costs. Is there some great piece of software that makes the process easy, or do people rely on their own knowledge of material and labor prices. It seems like the estimating software I’ve looked at are…[Read more]

Walking around New Orleans some years ago, it looked to me like the city had created green streets by default. Lack of maintenance or rebuilding funds had allowed many curbed street edges to deteriorate to the point where there were wide vegetated strips along them. I was told they have no property taxes there, one reason the city is so broke.…[Read more]

I don’t feel qualified to rank any countries as best, but I can offer anecdotal opinions. I know the Netherlands has had strong energy efficiency standards for many years, and the country’s small size forces them to be very efficient with land use. They’ve been doing very comprehensive town planning for a long time. They use a lot of wind energy.…[Read more]

We did have an ecologist working on the mitigated wetlands with us, but not on the stormwater wetlands. My emphasis was in ecology for my master’s in landscape architecture – mostly worked on wetlands as I was in the middle of the prairie pothole region – so I knew a thing or two about wetlands.
The project was very interesting – a farm field…[Read more]
