I use polyline most frequently, line occasionally, spline never.

Hi Tosh
If that’s how you work then vote for all of them. I don’t want to prejudice the vote with my views yet

to follow Andrew’s question – what do you mean by default? In my experience there is no ‘default’ I pick the tool that is best suited for a task, each has it’s use.

Have a full digital portfolio (ISSUU or similar) online for viewing. I would also send out hard copy cover letter (where you can highlight your interest in the area as well as the firm), CV and work samples (3~5 pages max).
It’s best if you can make a trip out and hit a bunch of firms for informational interviews; if you can afford to visit…[Read more] -

Hi Andrew
I’m interested to hear what others use as their default AutoCAD linework tool. Which one do you typically choose for your everyday work?

I’d like to know this as well. So far I’ve just been cold emailing firms with digital portfolios. What are your thoughts so far?

Thank you for the advice to be cautious about being taken advantage of in employment, I have lived in Italy before and have visited Sudan and know that business can be very different in other countries. I will be mindful of this while negotiating salaries and in my research on companies.

300 mb is quite small in my opinion. My files sometimes reach above 1gb (I use a lot of masks and layers. But I have the proper machine for it and it can handle it quite well with little lag. Your computer crashes probably because something is overheating. Download a temerature monitor program (they’re free) for your computer and see if anything…[Read more]

I fully agree with Walter. Had one year in Nanjing with a local LA firm and a posh American name. Went to Shenzhen after that to join a local LA firm connected to an Australian architecture firm. Here I failed after a hand full of month because of internal animosity issues with some locals and my outspoken attitude. I loved the food; the rest was…[Read more]

Tips of the Week: Drawing a Tree
A simple 5 mins tree with Chartpak markers: First outlined it with red or 6B pencil and render leaves with Grass Green and Nile Green; trunk with Buff, Suntan and Mocha. Finally outlined it with black Sharpie and hit it with Prismacolor pencils – Poppy Red and True Blue. Always apply markers from lighter to da…[Read more] -

Shenzhen is a decent City, nice people and many things to do, borders Hong Kong. I lived in Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen for 6.5 years moving there from Vegas. I am now in Dubai as of January last year. My only advice is to be very careful which company you work for. Many companies throughout China, other than the big name firms, are not honest…[Read more]

agreed, I’ve seen a few K euros/dollars in cash on the markets in Asia quite a few times. My fees won’t require a suitcase to move the cash around… scotch tape will be fine 🙂

They do work in cash a lot over there – get it in dollars or euros and you should be ok. Until it becomes a burdensome amount, it seems reasonable.

Tosh K replied to the topic Where to start with LEED? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 2 months ago
Any number of private consulting firms offer leed prep courses (most hover around $100); for phase 1, the GA exam you only need to know the basics (but statistics as they publish it) as published in their own LEED guide. Phase 2 are the subject specialty tests which you’ll want to study for (right now ND and NB+C probably makes most sense for…[Read more]

I agree with that – the whole EIS system is a complete joke, including the visual Impact analysis garbage and ‘mitigation measures.” CEQR needs to be tossed, it has no way to say no to development at all, only yes with ridiculous mitigations. Ca. loves to use these fred flintstone looking fake stone stuff if they are required to ‘mitigate’ so the…[Read more]
