Hi Cassie
Melbourne Water in Australia have good guidelines on constructed wetlands just look them up on the web. City of Melbourne WSUD guidelines, Virginia DCR Stormwater Spec, City of Portland Stormwater Manual and California Department of Transport Website are useful.
Although what you describe might suit a bio-infiltration trench/basin setup…[Read more] -

I just found out you can also define layer filters in the layer manager : saves a lot of time when there are too many to deal with.
I made a filter for planting (all), one just for trees, one for all other plants
Then some other for master plan, paper space, etc…By default, you can already select which Xrefs in the drawing you want to…[Read more]

Somewhat glad you see things as I do : 1 skill/set of skills is not enough.
Now, you also scare the hill out of me: I’m just 40, and I feel that what you just said is sound and real.
Do I feel ready to fly on my own if I have to ? Not really. Will work harder to be sure I can if the time comes. Thanks for your warning.

Thanks Andrew. Now I can finally get a look at the AIA guidelines… and decide what is useful. I have been using my own nomenclature (as many in this blog have advised me to do). However, I believe it’s always a good idea to start from the accepted standards and then improve them rather than reinvent the wheel. I’ll check out the other discussions, too.

Hi Regina,
Great question! Here is the pdf version of AIA CAD Layer Guidelines. I typically use a modified version of the layer naming convention, but always prefix layer names with L- to designate landscape layers. For example, L-WALL, L-PAV, etc. Also, here are a couple of other discussion on Land8 that you might want to ref…[Read more]

Anything which requires repelling skills by the maintenance staff is probably not a good idea.

Well, they aren’t just AIA standards, the idea was that all the allied professions would adopt them to make file sharing and references actually work, which is getting to be critical for using REVIT. And I do use the NCS and have for many years.

I have followed a similar protocol – developing my own definitions for layers – but I’m really interested in learning about the standards used in a professional office. Do you follow AIA conventions, for example?

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic CAD layering standards for LAs in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 12 years, 10 months ago
You can generally find the general idea of the standards to download somewhere to view for free (google search), which include LA layers. As well, you can create your own layers as needed as long as they fit the conventions. I’ve pretty much always used a similar system, and it has worked out very well, especially when dealing with many different…[Read more]

Akin,
Good looking portfolio. I only have a couple of comments.
First of all i disagree with some of the previous posters that their is too much work presented here. In fact I like it. Many of us designers particularly the visually oriented ones enjoy flipping through a document full of interesting eye candy.
However, I do agree with…[Read more] -

check out these guys, they are masters..What you are talking about is not rocket science, you just stated exactly what you need for design..check dams and recreated wetlands lower down slope, next to river.. Good idea ( I think!?) that is how it should be.
Biohabitats recreated a part of a river running through…[Read more] -

This is for a bridge that crosses a river. There is a stormwater outlet at the steepest part of the slope, but quickly flattens as drainage would reach the river. My thinking now is to incorporate a series of check dams (as part of erosion control) into the slope and have a constructed wetland closer to the river. I am hoping to find a pr…[Read more]

Why are you locating treatment on steep slopes? Best Management Practices would put the low point ditch in some kind of BMP planting design, but steep slopes are only for erosion control, really. More info needed, maybe? or are you just looking for what to do on steep slopes? (contour grading and erosion control)…

in the 1 minute i watched this before feeling i was wasting time, I saw lots of concrete, old modernist ideas such as separation of transportation networks from almost a century ago (Le Corbusier & such), dead looking images, and nothing to make me feel like i belong there.
isnt it time that guy retires ?
