When taking a multiple choice test I find it helpful to not look for the right answer. I eliminate the more wrong answers. Sometimes I don’t even look at the remaining answer because it just makes me angry.

It’s been awhile since I posted or even lurked. Don’t see many of the regulars but do remember Craig. Two years ago I had too much time on my hands because of this lousy economy so I got involved in ASLA Central. Now that my chairmanship is up I’m back to this lousy economy. I too had come out of early retirement but I’m doing it in a geographic…[Read more]

i am a third year undergrad LA and i can say not many people in our studio use it. although we did have a class that taught us digital representation (sketchup, 3ds max, illustrator, photoshop, indesign). if you have your line work done correctly drawn, meaning closed splines in autocad, and everything in seperate layers, then you can build a…[Read more]

I don’t know if growing vines on fiberglass walls or any stucco products will work, we have this types of exterior walls and I am planning to plant any type of vines that can crawl on the wall surface.

I wish that I could say who the company is but I don’t think that it would be appropriate….perhaps the course will not even be approved…I can only hope.
The course is so badly compiled (per the person that answered the phone…as opposed to written) that it was confusing without poor flow and had poor hierarchy of topics, scattered i…[Read more] -

I had a professor in college that taught Recreational Geography. He, also, basically read the textbook to us everyday. On the plus side, he was the actual author of the text book. Still it would have been nicer to have a deeper discussion on his themes instead of a regurgitation of them. What I thought would be enjoyable class turned out to…[Read more]

I called the company to check their policy on copying or plagiarizing from the web and the reply was essentially:
– the course was a compilation of material and the site(s) were not copy written (I found one that was used and was also copy written) so they can use that information if they want to;
– my comments didn’t really matter (although I c…[Read more] -

Limited Liability Corporation is just that. It would protect your assests in the event something went wrong with a project. If you would rather not set up a LLC you could create a sole proprietorship just as easily.

I understood LLC’s as a means to protect personal assets from creditors. Since I will not have any debt or creditors, what is the advantage of establishing an LLC in this situation?

Unless they were the one who provided that info to wiki, etc, it’s a hard sell. As Rob pointed out, being professionals, I think it’s fair to say that the intention for continuing ed is that we want to learn from experts in their field. To show that the credentials have to look good first, plagiarizing just sounds awful.

Leslie B Wagle replied to the topic Plagiarism in a CE course in the forum EDUCATION 13 years, 2 months ago
The chance that they looked at other sources and accumulated material isn’t so much a deal breaker but attempting to pass off word for word is pretty amazing. Couldn’t they find anything a little more obscure than Wikipedia? That’s a bad precedent not only for the one course but anything else they might also offer becomes suspect. Even companies…[Read more]

Barbara,
Hi!
In addition to ethical issues there is an educational one: if the instructor has had to plagiarize the course, how deep can his or her familiarity with the subject be? We take a class because we want a different, deeper experience than reading a Wiki post can give (as well as the CEUs). I think a live class ought to offer more than a…[Read more] -

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
I see that Rhino is used more for modelling while 3ds Max is used for rendering and animation. Since my interest leans toward the rendering side of things, it seems to point to 3ds Max. However, it also makes me wonder if I should just spend more time with SketchUp and learn rendering plugins like V-Ray,…[Read more] -

I too have noticed many job postings asking for 3DS and Rhino and as a professor who teaches this subject area, I respond by adding these to what is taught in my program. In addition we also teach Vue as a final part of our landscape visualization workflow. The base of this workflow is SketchUp with IRP programs (i.e. Twilight Render) and many p…[Read more]

Bret,
I have been working as a contractor for another firm for two years and have gone through this very same exercise. I’m very cautious about my liability and I can say that so long as you don’t seal or sign anything with the other firm you would be in no different a situation than if you were an employee. You would not be liable since that…[Read more] -
