Yeah, they really are! I want one of these:

This is from an established, major mobile and modular home builder, so there are some forces out there incentivizing better design. -

Right, Jordan, easy for you to say. Right now I have a job that has nothing to do with landscape architecture. The amount of work varies to the point where I make $700 one month and $500 the next. Theoretically, I could make more, but there’s never enough work for that. My bills are enough that I can’t manage to save anything from one month to the…[Read more]

I fully agree and this can not be emphasized enough, a redundant degree in L Arch following a undergrad degree is pretty disappointing. Unless, you are looking to change fields or expand your field. You could get a masters in Arch. or something that is somewhat related, so that your undergrad is still a bonus to have. Otherwise, I would recommend…[Read more]

Wouldn’t a nice double-wide trailer be a much better home than a stack of storage containers? The modular double wides are really starting to look much nicer.

I am not sure that is a correct statement. I believe the time frame is based on the requirements State where you are applying for your initial licensure. For example: The State of Michigan allows you a 10 year time frame. I am sure other states have different requirements. I don’t see anywhere on the CLARB website where they even speak to this issue.

In New Jersey, most of the beaches require a season pass. You pay to get a plastic badge that you have to show to badge checkers who patrol the beach during the summer season. There are different zones for surfers and those who do surf fishing, but they are only marked by temporary flags placed in the sand. You really can’t have anything mo…[Read more]

My understanding is that you lose the parts that you passed after three years go by. In other words, you need to pass the complete exam in a three year window. Then you start dropping off the first year’s passed exams and need to re-take them before you lose the credit of the other exams that you passed.
Some states used to offer the exams…[Read more] -

Thanks for the reply ,
What I am looking for is controlled beaches where you pay to access it , and you can see two different zones ladies and families and how landscape plays the part where it can be used as a barrier between them, it can be a visible or non visible barrier .
I am sure that different communities have different req…[Read more] -

I can relate.
It appears you worked for two contractors already, but in what capacity ?
If the office experience is not forthcoming, strike out on your own for a while. If you’re back in WC, you have a lot of possibilities available to you.
You have to find a number of contractors within a reasonable distance and provide design services to the…[Read more] -

I’d avoid getting a masters if you think it will give you a better chance at getting a job in LA. It won’t, and even if you do find a job, you’ll end up spending your entire life poor trying to pay off your student loan debt. If you want to actually learn more and are interested in theory/experimenting, then yes furthuring your education is a good…[Read more]

Not a fan. There is a recently built house across the river from where I have a house that was built with shipping containers. They butted them up against each other to (presumably) create larger interior spaces, but from the outside, it doesn’t look all that great. They even left them in the red oxide primer color. Google “container hou…[Read more]

Are you asking about beaches that are restricted for use by women or families? We don’t have those in the US. Everybody is mixed together on our beaches, families, singles, couples, straight and gay. There are some beach areas reserved for nudists. Crazy, huh? I imagine Islamic law presents some problems for beach attire and use in Dubai.

I know that this subject died a natural death in 2008. I find myself considering a move to the Middle East to pursue employment. Can anyone there cast some light on the current opportunities?
Thanks -

You’re light on the information that you already have about your project or what you want to create.
For basic to highly technical information about using Autocad, go to http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forum.php
With Sketchup photo match can you can create the project site from imported photos. Lots of help online at sketchup and on youtube.

Congratulations, Andrés! I am a 2011 grad, the job search has been tough on me as well.
What I found that has made the biggest difference was getting involved with my local ASLA chapter and volunteering at other local events. I know there are differing opinions on the value of ASLA, but it has been nice to have a community of people with similar…[Read more] -

Some ideas:
Approach any and every firm you can for informational interviews to find out more about them, what they’re looking for in new hires, and whether they have any opportunities for you to do contract work and/or even volunteer work for them. Most job openings won’t be advertised.
Participate in design competitions to keep building your…[Read more] -

Well there are ads out there but they a) seem to be asking for people who can walk on water and/or b) will probably get piles of resumes; however keep it up and something will eventually happen.
In the meantime, since you didn’t ask only for job leads, and you look healthy and maybe mobile, it occurs to me that the summer is coming on, and there…[Read more]
