Well there are ads out there but they a) seem to be asking for people who can walk on water and/or b) will probably get piles of resumes; however keep it up and something will eventually happen.
In the meantime, since you didn’t ask only for job leads, and you look healthy and maybe mobile, it occurs to me that the summer is coming on, and there…[Read more]

I threw away a HP 7000 today. Totally a waste of money!!!
it printed up to 13″X19″, when it worked. I tried using it for about a year
and couldn’t take it any more. It was noisy and used too much ink….
was constantly chewing up envelopes and was a pain in the a#@s!
Don’t buy this printer!
On the other hand,
I bought a HP Designjet 100 D size…[Read more] -

HP 7780 (?) Just under $300 I think. Noticed that when I printed from a residential 3D software and CAD that line drawings were not printing to scale. There has to be a way to correct it, but probably above my echelon level. I turned off all scaling, etc and went through all the GUI settings, but never got it right. Does good on color for …[Read more]

Alan Ray, RLA replied to the topic Why designers are afraid of showing hand sketches to their clients? in the forum GRAPHICS 13 years, 4 months ago
Hey Robert, the way I keep clients from taking my drawings to others and not paying is
I don’t even make an initial site visit for free. I explain over the phone that if I come to their
place I’m working and expect to get paid for my time, including travel time. I find it to be a real good way to qualify the client….If they quibble over that,…[Read more] -

I really agree with what Mike said about designers versus artists. One of my bosses would always visit clients and bring back sketches. They always seemed messy to me, and I had problems figuring out what things were when he asked me to redraft them. But they must have worked for the client. The important thing was that he was able to show his…[Read more]

Robert, you may find it interesting that my Presentation Methods teacher was Harlow Landphair.
We had him at MSU before he went to Texas A&M…he was a fantastic professor.
Oh, and Welcome to the SEC…a great addition to the confrence. -

I show hand sketches to clients almost daily….what’s the big deal?
Of course, when I was in school, we had to take art appreciation, art design, freehand drawing, and 3D.
It was part of the cirruculum….there was also a LA course called Presentation Methods…..no computers back then in the earry 70’s….it’s too bad hand drawing is no longer…[Read more] -

Fremont – The Florida Landscape Magazine that we talked about earlier just came out, its called ” Florida Landscapes” and it was sent to all members of FLASLA. You seemed interested in it and I wanted to get you a copy if you didn’t receive one. John Conroy(my boss) wrote a column in the magazine and he was interested in the topics you listed in…[Read more]

I am finishing my MLA this year. While I deeply value everything I have gained from my education, I do wonder if I might have been able to pursue an equally satisfying career in a similar field that has more funding available for graduate students. If your disposition is amenable to linear thinking, I encourage you to explore some of the sciences…[Read more]

If you’re aiming for an Asian Tropical feel (which I guess you must, considering the sun exposure), then you should go for plants with great foliage, colors and texture. If bougainvilleas can thrive there, then that’ll do the trick for you.
But if you’re looking for a more minimalist, Zen-type Asian feel, ophiopogon (“mondo” grass), agaves an…[Read more]

Mexican Feather Grass, Yucca and Agave come to mind right away. There is a yucca that kind of resembles a tall, wide-bladed grass like Phormium. I think its Giant Yucca. I mention Agave because they have such interesting forms and can take the heat. They look good in contemporary landscapes which are often Asian influenced. Dwarf Mock…[Read more]

Thanks for the feed back! If any of you are intrested in discussing topics within section 3 let me know. I wouldnt mind a live chat. I’m not that involved with my local chapter, so I dont know to many people who are taking the exam. So talking to someone about it would be appreciated!

Agreed! as soon as i saw the fact that the exams would be 50 questions, my jaw dropped. First time clarb has done something so useful That, combined with the study topics ASLA has provided are making this test much more reasonable and on par with other professions.
