Hello Katharine:
So, to answer the burning question: is it permissible to use Monrovia web photos for lanscape sales materials? It would certainly make such materials much more cost effective for a small business; as I noted above, the botanical stock photo sites charge quite a bit. Mainstream stock photos are reasonably priced, but simply don’t cut it.

It can make a huge difference. By inputting into InDesign by using a standard setting for the PDF, color is assigned to the black lines, and unless you make the drawing pure black, it can use all four toner colors to print black which is why the image will print muddy and brown. And if the printer’s registration is off, it looks terrible. Un…[Read more] -

Jason I’ve had some mixed results with digital print shops. When I’ve printed 11 x 17 portfolio pages with a combination of color images and cad, the color backgrounds, images and pictures look fantastic, but the black and white (cad) work wasn’t as good as what I’ve produced on a home photo printer. In fact, with the last batch of brochures,…[Read more]

If you are not going to use it all that much, time is not of the essence, and you are using it for personal reasons instead of recouping by billing the costs on a job, I would suggest just getting what you need laser printed at a good print shop. It will cost you a lot less in the end and be much less of a headache. I have an Epson inkjet that I…[Read more]

I have a Brother printer that does 11×17, and it was in the $300 range (I got it way back when I had a good job). My only complaint is that it goes through ink too quickly. Just a few 11×17’s and it will need new cartridges. I’m not sure whether the newer models are better about this. Mine is a MFC-6490CW, and the equivalent newer models would b…[Read more]

Well, I passed Section 3, though not Section 4 in December. There were lots of design related questions in Section 3 that came from Timesaver Standards in Landscape Architecture. The P2P book on the old Section C was helpful as well. Items included noise abatement, bike travel, parking lot layout and safety…For section 4 I will refocus on…[Read more]

Found this Thread on Section 3. Looks like some of you may have taken the December exam. How did it go? Anyone mind sharing any lessons learned from the exam?

The best person to contact at Monrovia is Kathy Rudnyk. You can friend her on Land8 here: https://land8.com/profile/KatharineRudnyk

I have wondered about asking Monrovia…maybe I’ll shoot them an email. After all, it would help them sell more plants. All they can do is say no.

First thing I would suggest is do a little more digging and find out what the client likes so much about Asian gardens and then create a new theme based on those likes and what can be sustained in the Vegas area.
A large part of Asian gardens is controlling the views but here it sounds like the client wants it all open?
Then you should use p…[Read more]

Have you thought of contacting Monrovia and asking if you can use there images if you site them in your brochure? Or any other growers for that mater.
Also contact Saxon Holt. He is a landscape photographer that has done great work with plants on the West Coast. If nothing else a place to start.

I was hoping for a source where we could actually purchase and use the images in company marketing materials. I could swear sites like that note the images are copyrighted and owned by the web host or Monrovia. The larger, more general stock photo companies don’t seem horticulturally trustworthy.
I have found a couple of sources, but they are pricey. - Load More
