The image I attached earlier took approx 4 hours in skup and 4 hrs in pshop. To each her own, but I think in many cases we’re wasting our time in programs like max..just my two cents.

so where do you begin mauijim? Start with the lowest common denominator and hope someone in the audience is paying attention?
I can’t really say I love it or hate it because I dont think we’re getting the full story, not even close, but I certainly wouldn’t say its a bad plan because it’s too ‘fantastical or academic.’
What I would say is t…[Read more] -

Personally, I’d rather see unemployed LA’s out selling used cars than playing the lottery in the stock market.
I gotta wonder why brilliant people like MauiJim work as well with so much independent wealth! wow. -

The point of my state, ment you quoted wasn’t to show that I have an ego to uphold, but just the opposite. It doesn’t particularly matter to me. The only thing I wouldn’t call myself is ‘Registered Landscape Architect’ because I am not.
I don’t really see a problem with the other ‘titles’ if you want to call them that–they’re really pretty…[Read more] -

Rick,
just drove through your neck of the woods this weekend on our way to Moab, UT. If you’re a cyclist, runner, or motorhead I highly recommend it. If you’re a cyclist, you’ve probably already hit Fruita just down the road.
Anyway, I can certainly see where you’re coming from, and working for a ‘one man office’ for a while now I co…[Read more] -

I’m curious to read any advice from thos who have taken section C as well. I agree that the study material provided has been very helpful though it’s difficult to continue practicing once you’ve completed all the vignettes. If anyone has any other material they could share that would be great!

So, you think passing the exam alone SHOULD be adequate for licensure?
Or do you think experience is important? More or less than education and passing the actual exam?

I like how you clearly state, ‘before I got my stamp, I was a landscape architect..’ end of conversation?
Now you’re an RLA. I see a discernable difference.
About the code requirement– Have you ever thought that the code requirement actually incentivizes minimum standards over the value of good design? One way to look at it may be that p…[Read more] -

I agree completely with RFox on the dilution of the word ‘architect.’
I’m pretty sure I can call myself an ‘architect’ if I want without penalty. I choose not to, but there are hordes of job listings and titles in the software industry for ‘architects.’ Architect is a pretty broad term. Landscape Architect denotes a specific set of…[Read more] -

edit:
Wouldn’t it suck to get beat out of a project by a FLA? -

I’m not interested in using the title (as seldom as that may be) so much for the ‘prestige’ (because I dont think the word ‘architect’ carries much prestige today anyway), but because it better represents what I do and how I think.
Like I said, 9 times out of 10 I refer to myself as a “designer,” (oh a fashion designer!? like project runway?!),…[Read more] -

close all the tabs, toolbars, windows and buttons that the default 2011 interface throws at you. All you need is the command line and model/paper space tabs.
Cad is actually pretty intuitive when you forget about all the junk toolbars and use the command line. If you want to make a line, type “L” for line..Polyline..”PL”..trim, offset, arc,…[Read more] - Load More
