  • I have been using more Baccharis pilularis ‘Pigeon Point’ up here in the East Bay of S.F. It seems to be an easy evergreen plant. So far, so good.

Has anyone had any problems with it after it has established?

Also what is your favorite Ceanothus and why?

  • Great. Glad to know that. Thanks, Mary Anne.
CLARB: If you’re listening in, consider adding some descriptive content to the LARE Orientation Guide about the interface if you are no longer able to provide a demo.

  • I’ve got a question about the computer interface for multiple choice sections. CLARB no longer has a sample on its web site and the $30, 30 minute test drive session at Prometrix isn’t convenient. Can you only go back to questions you have not answered, or can you review all your answers and make changes at any time?

  • I’m looking for a class to take for Section D…anyone have any suggestions?

  • Hi all.  I’m working on a planting plan for a steep slope in an area that has plenty of DG (East San Diego) and need to add a burgundy color to the palette.  All of the other plants are xeric.  I’m hoping to find something that someone doesn’t need to prune (due to the steepness) but that will add color even if it’s deciduous. I’m using Ma…[Read more]

Can anyone point  out a good source for sustainability and materials and methods. It felt great on the exam, but something has to be missing. Im floating between 2s and 3s and I have referenced many books that I have. Do the practice exams help?

    Thanks, Veenu!

  • Alland,

Something I can think of right now are,
    Pavement Cross sections, look for
    -thickness of concrete
    -proper placement of filter fabric
    -water proofing etc

    Stairs
-Riser thread heights or riser tread combined dimensions
-Handrail height, end handrail wrap up

Gaurdrails- spacing between rails, height, minimum requirement of gaurd…[Read more]

any idea what may be some of the flaws in the construction cross sections?
    steps, hardscaping, retaining walls, etc?

  • Great, thanks for the help!

I think I’m going to buy the LaGro book to start with and try to get the other ones through interlibrary loan (which never even occurred to me at first).

I would eventually like to buy all of them, but that’s almost $600 for all the books (used), exam fee, and study guides, so that’ll have to wait.

  • The test had questions from all four books.  I think the Site Analysis by LaGro would be the most important followed by the Booth and Russ books.  I suggest you read them all though if you are serious about passing the exam.  They are great books to have in your library for referencing throughout your career so make the investment if you can. Als…[Read more]

  • Jessica, you should be able to get all these books at your local library through interlibrary loan.

  • Jessica,

I have Site Analysis, and Site Planning & Design Handbook.  I read both of them, but only skimmed the Site Planning book.  Definitely read Site Analysis and get the PPI study material, and maybe the CLARB practice test.  That is what got me to pass this time.
