No telling without a sense of size. Rather like a liriope in many ways, but the colors are off

Yeah, all I can get is that it appears to be in Liliaceae

This will require the same locality based research as the best green roof technology has. While the idea of thyme lawns and chamomile lawns is old, that won’t work everywhere.
Here are some interesting links to this project:

Rob Halpern replied to the topic Plagiarism in a CE course in the forum EDUCATION 11 years, 6 months ago
Barbara,
Hi!
In addition to ethical issues there is an educational one: if the instructor has had to plagiarize the course, how deep can his or her familiarity with the subject be? We take a class because we want a different, deeper experience than reading a Wiki post can give (as well as the CEUs). I think a live class ought to offer more than a…[Read more] -
Rob Halpern replied to the topic Tree Stakes in the forum DETAILS & MATERIALS 11 years, 7 months ago
While staking trees is most often not best for the long term health of the tree, it is still advised in some situations. For small tree, the stakes can make up for the root system that ought to stabilize the tree.
But with a 96″Box tree, I can’t imagine that, in the event of a huge wind event, the stakes are going to stabilize the tree. -
Rob Halpern replied to the topic What do you think of my portfolio cover? in the forum PORTFOLIO & RESUME 11 years, 7 months ago
I certainly appreciate Ms. Bloch’s point.
I have been very fortunate in my career to always have great doors open to me… almost without my even thinking about it. But in the current environment (which will not apparently change for landscape architects for some years), a new graduate must ask himself what “following his dream” is worth to him.…[Read more] -

If you look at Andres’ cover it says, before you even notice a word, Someone designing, developing ideas, thinking horizontally and vertically. That image could stand on its own. This is someone to interview. He’ll have something to say.
Compare that to your cover, Luke. Your choice of photo and hesitant typology says everything about you, or at…[Read more] -

You asked about spaces, but it more often comes down to people, I think:

That is, indeed, a tough choice. In the end, you’ll have only limited say in how much effect you can have. A landscape architect in the right firm, who gets the right kind of work can make a big difference. But that same person may just as easily end up spending years designing new developments that merely replace Nature with “sustainably…[Read more]

Two that come to mind:

Also, on a visit to the San Francisco Zoo I saw that they were outfitting an area for the most simple of nature play. One spot had a pile of natural cut poles, maybe 3-4′ long. Kids would build tepees or bridges or whatever they could think of. No instruction,…[Read more]

When I review a resume I am looking for real content to help me get a sense of the candidate. If there is a lot of fluff it gets things off on the wrong foot.
You can certainly communicate your willingness to travel in easier ways.
But showing that you have an eye for design is more difficult to convey.
Consider carefully what photo to include and…[Read more] -

I can’t think of a recent article that had me screaming “YEAH!” so enthusiastically as did this one! Thanks for posting. I blame graphics technology for making architects and landscape architects feel that any thing they can draw can be made to happen (if only some other sucker would foot the $Billion bill!) or should happen or well, someone else…[Read more]

Rob Halpern replied to the topic Urban waterside planting in the forum PLANTS & HORTICULTURE 11 years, 9 months ago
Is your struggle the effort to reconcile “I’m wanting to bring back the history of the site” with “I’m interested in the idea of urban agriculture, urban plazas/squares.” Why are you imposing these constraints on the design? Do either grow out of “The site is very urban and is a waterside site and will be a mixed use development.”?

Rob Halpern replied to the topic Inspiration Panic! in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 11 years, 9 months ago
Good advice, I think. Just start drawing and one thing will lead to another.
Also: design does not arise out of divine inspiration from nowhere. It must grow out of the conditions of the site, the functions the site must accommodate and augment, the budget, and any vision the client came with. When the “juices aren’t flowing” (ick!) start with the…[Read more] -
Rob Halpern replied to the topic Abundance of Florida Plants in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 11 years, 10 months ago
Learning the plants is, of course, essential.
But so is learning the vagaries of Florida micro-climates. Plants that will grow in Miami might not survive 75 mile inland.
A course would help you discern such differences. - Load More
