I prefer douglas adams’ “three stages of man’s evolution”
How shall we eat?
What shall we eat?
And where shall we do lunch?
I could be worse, couldn’t it, guys? -

Cool, Tanya! Thanks! Looks like they want something a little more complex than my simplistic, “just don’t irrigate and see what happens” ideas..

Thanks for the posts, Jason, but I still have to say, that baby looks tough..A lot of hard urban walking, the human density approaching Calcutta, apparently, without the shopping interests, and no nooks or crannies to rest at all..
I will see it this fall, and form a real opinion, but as an avid interpreter of videos and photos, Prospect Park it i…[Read more] -

Not to beat a dead horse, also, Jason, but check out Corner’s lecture on Youtube in the Spring at USC entitled ‘Recent Works’..Very interesting – find there is more there for us LA’s than in the magazine articles, personally..

No, Academic Planning bodies are the worst, they are actually worse than Planning Boards or Commissions of small towns..

@Craig, I see it differently..It is exactly when I am there on the same corner with the bum, that the moment has the most personal consequences and interaction..that bum, at that second, could use some water…that is it..or a piece of fruit or a sandwich..it is when one either judges them as a whole as useless and craven, or when only advocating…[Read more]

r@ Jason, right, you think ikea was being raided by the homeless? It was being raided by middle-class whites looking for a small freebie..
Your Bloomburg post has absolutely no facts at all..My post is nothing but statistics..sorry, Jason, you are one down, in your interpretation of realilty.
And this anti-science mantra that just because it is an…[Read more] -

Yeah, you are probably right, Craig..I can’t do what you suggested, obviously, but I think water is probably (here in Fresno) a better thing to pass out..One guy I know gives out sun screen – they really need it!
but as for giving each one you encounter nothing, that I disagree with..If it was you standing out there, that one sandwich may be the…[Read more] -
Trace One replied to the topic The Architecture Billing Index fell..again in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 5 months ago
“It is the first quarter of positive growth. With this index, a score of 50 is neutral, no growth, no loss. So, there is .2 points growth. Great. Losses had been slowing over the past months, but then it picked up again. Hopefully, this is the start of higher billings, but given the track record of this index, it is likely just a blip and lo…[Read more]

You quote a politicians program passed in the face of rising homelessness..Check out the comment section of your pasted article, and you will see a different perspective..Like one guy says, the world is not flat..It is a complex problem, with complex solutions – there are many reasons for homelessness..
I come from a much more “there but for the…[Read more] -

and as Henry says below, the Veterans comprise a significant portion of the homeless…..I met many viet nam vets living on the streets of Brooklyn in the eighties, warped by their drug use during the war..Used to play Frisbee Golf with one of them, he would appear from the shrubberies of Prospect Park, ready for a game..

Jason, you can choose your television channels, but not your own facts.

I sure wouldn’t want to be one of the 1.3 million homeless children and run into your “nasty brutish and short’ view of human existence.
But more to the point, I don’t believe the statistics bear your survival of the fittest pe…[Read more] -

Trace One replied to the topic Design for the homeless in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 5 months ago
I think we have been through this argument before, Jason – I disagree, the homeless are often thought of in designs…Olmstead did it. As long as the design is ‘democratic’ (for all) with public water, benches and public bathrooms it will be used by the homeless..Of course, some people have chosen to lock up the parks – the disclusion of the p…[Read more]

ps,I was in love with my own brilliant design, turning shopping carts into fold-out shelters, and found through Land8 that the design had been detailed, in EDAH, I think – “Everyone Deserves a Home” – check it out..I also designed a homeless park to go with that, that included ‘roaming roads’ fresh water spots, etc. – hopefully to accomodate their…[Read more]

OMG, I am sorry, you sound so naive..Homelessness is a problem that cities, societies are working on constantly.I think Bloomburg just came out with something new LAST WEEK…For my city, Fresno, two years ago we cleared out a camp and it cost us $5,000 per homeless person when we were sued – who knows what the homeless will do with their…[Read more]

sorry, Peter, realized it was a different Google/solar panel project after I posted…Mojave Desert Solar project, which Google has invested in, was halted on April 26 or so by the Bureau of Land Management because many more Desert Tortoises were being found than the EIS had predicted would need to be relocated/die.

The Mojave Desert project which I believe is also the “Google Project” you are referring to is high on my list of what not to do..They located the vast array in ‘pristine’ desert. It may be hard for some people to appreciate pristine desert, but the endangered desert tortoises that put a halt to the project temporarily certainly appreciate their…[Read more]

It’s called “James Corner Recent Works” – really worth the watch, IMHO.. - Load More
