Now that it’s been opened up for more general comments…
This survey was conducted by the Colorado Chapter of ASLA, and the results recently reported in our Exposures newsletter on page 8 (which showed up in my mailbox last week). Survey was conducted back in October.
105 respondents, representing approximately 20% of membership
50% reported no…[Read more] -

As I mentioned, I’m in one of the worst hit metros in the country (Las Vegas). There are unfinished construction projects all over the valley. Some are rather bizarre scenes, as they look like all the workers just left one day and didn’t come back. The equipment and materials are still on-site, presumably because there is no place else to take…[Read more]

In this part of northern Colorado, which granted is evidently a different market than even Denver just 40 miles or so further south I have been sensing some optimism. We work closely with builders and subdivision developers specifically and there are new projects springing up in that realm.
I dont know if the work we have is an anomoly or not.…[Read more]

Much lower real estate values than a few years ago. Very few real estate transactions. Many commercial jobs that have been permitted are not getting built. Many unbuilt subdivisions being offered for sale to the towns for open space (we have a “land bank” system that funds these purchases from realestate transactions), many empty store fronts, and…[Read more]

I felt bad fot Tim Zhang that he was personally ridiculed and thought Landplanner would get it and be more tolerant. It is an open forum and Tim’s comment is every bit as legitimate as anyone elses.
My grammar and spelling put me in a glass house.
I deleted the post out of respect for the forum and Landplanner. I think it would be nice if LP…[Read more]

I’m going to expand this simplistic survey and have respondents add some anecdotal observations about the economic and employment conditions related to our profession in their region of the country. Please add yours.

Well there’s a bunch of different systems out there. The famous Patrick Blanc system uses PVC sheets with felt stapled to them. Slits are cut in the first layer of felt but not the second. Each plant is placed into the slit and then staples are put around the plant roots to form a pocket.
That’s just one system, but there’s also greenwall panels…[Read more] -

It looks like you started this post back in May ’09, but I checked out your folio and didn’t see any pictures of the vertical garden yet.. so I thought I’d maybe weigh in. As far as the water needed for a pipe goes, you’d need a horizontal irrigation pipe for every 10 ft of vertical surface if you’re using Patrick Blanc’s method… that’d be a…[Read more]
