not even Berberis would do the job, but a good club from an Oak tree might do the job.

Weren’t the buildup, by greed, areas swamps and wetlands in the past?
The ordinary flood impact could be minimized by a respectful observation and study of old elevation maps. It is our all duty to guide and mentor to have these areas being brought back to their natural function.

Hi Jim,
My best experience over years was to visit the local Botanical Gardens and other Open to the Public Private Gardens established “long time back”.
These people tried a lot, and what you see now are the successful plants.
The danger with books and similar material is that they very often paste and copy, especially the mistakes. Reg Ernst -

I would advise to use something fork-stemmed, but no a maple. Have something deep or heart shaped rooting. Go and see the nurseries for a tree being a reject for it’s standard. Have the 2 or 3 stemms cleared to a hight of 2m. Choice of tree is difficult to say from here. One thing is right, you need the space from the edge of your walway to allow…[Read more]

Hi Mark, just for you:
Golden chain tree is a small deciduous tree or large shrub that is noted for its pendulous axillary racemes of yellow, wisteria-like flowers that bloom in spring. It is a hybrid cross between L. alpinum and L. anagyroides. It typically grows 25-30’ tall as a tree and 15-20’ tall as a shrub. Trifoliate, clover-like, med…[Read more] -
