I’ve seen that structure as well, mostly at very small firms. But there is a drawback to that. You are leaving the junior staff pretty much to their own devices and are taking risk with document production and errors. The experienced LA will also be faster with creation of documents, and getting them right the first time. The middle person can…[Read more]

Its a wonderful place to comiserate. Not as good as happy hour at the beer garden, but then again, there is simply a vast amount of people and experiences here that the swill-palace cannot match.
For an info-junkie like me, the news, techniques, trends, and opinion is great. I thought I was the only one who thought the way I did about certain th…[Read more] -
Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Bad font decisions, yes I'm talking to you Papyrus users! in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 10 months ago
I’m looking at it more from a professional practice issue. Not everybody has all the fonts loaded on their machine, and many do not print well. Some are also very illegible when running prints or copies of prints (remeber, original documents are hardly ever sent into the field, and are more likely bad copies). I don’t know how many times I had to…[Read more]

Never seen homeless in Central Park, not even in the Rambles.
There is a bit of difference between sleeping in the park and LIVING in the park. I’ve seen people napping in the park, but not with a stolen shopping cart or creating a shelter with boxes and tarpaulins, breaking a street light bases to steal electricity to have TV and c…[Read more] -
Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Getting the best print quality from an InDesign document with SketchUp images? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 10 months ago
A lot of your color issues could be due to the quality of the equipment at the print shop. Many color lasers have a hard time with solid blocks, often having inconsistencies accross the block or even stripes. This is due to how the machine creates the color. Some of it has to do with CMYK convsersion as well. You computer creates color using RGB,…[Read more]

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Victorian Fencing in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 10 months ago
With that style of house, I’d probably opt for a picket-style fence. It better reflects vernacular victorian than an iron fence would. Plus, it would go better with the white trim and light paint. It would be accurate to place it on top of a brick wall as well. Here is an interesting vinyl manufacturer that offers mix-and-match colors that mi…[Read more]

Make sure you terminate your contours properly (at right angles), its one thing the graders look for.

In all my years of going to NYC, I have NEVER seen homeless in Central Park. I highly doubt it was even a consideration or issue when Olmsted and Vaux designed it, as it was built on land that was essentially encampments. Those people were simply removed. The Central Park of old was a drug/homeless haven during the 70’s and 80’s when it earned the…[Read more]

Looks great, but I can’t stand subscription only services. That is an instant deal breaker for me and won’t even consider a software package that uses that business model. I know they are a sponsor and everything, but I know a bunch of firms and their IT guys who feel the same way.
Since it checks for subscription status/updates on start-up, on…[Read more] -

I’ll have to give that place a try. I usually frequent Tony Lukes…its just off 95 headed out of downtown, and their hoagie style is my preference (with the lettuce, tomato and mayo…plus, their bread rocks)

I’ve never had a problem with it. You just need to make sure you leave adequate time to get there early to wait in line (yes, there are lines), and for the trip. Into NYC, there always seems to be some sort of delay at the Lincoln Tunnel. I’m never on a schedule, so it doesn’t bother me. They have free WiFi and most seats have outlets. Another…[Read more]

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Typical drawing production hours CAD & hand drawn in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 10 months ago
I also depends on what CAD system you are using. I takes a lot more time to set up AutoCAD for doing LA plans because you a starting with a blank slate. As stated above, you need to get your standards together. Drawing blocks, standard details, sheet layout and such all take time. Other CAD systems are avaialble that are set up right out of the…[Read more]

You might want to send an e-mail to their generic “info” address asking if it is something they would be interested in. Often, the receptionist who answers the phone is different from the person who reads the “info” mail, which is often an assistant to the CEO/Senior partner. You might have better luck with that route, as the receptionist is often…[Read more]

What style is the house? The house style or period of ‘Vitorian’ determines the materials….
For your fence sketch, you can look at a Julius Blum & Co. catalog (http://www.juliusblum.com/products.html) to find parts and pieces. I get all my hand rail from them, its nice stuff.

Thats why I never give money to panhandlers…you become an enabler, usually to a substance abuse problem. You really are just encouraging destructive anti-societal behaviour. I can agree somewhat with what Olin, but you have to handle it in a manner like Walter Hood did in Oakland. You can design a space for them to use such as places to hang…[Read more]

I have a small test container of Pearls Premium (http://www.pearlspremium.com) which is a fine fescue with really deep roots and a short unmowed height. You can choose to mow it and it grows very slowly. I don’t know how it does in a full blown lawn, but it looks impressive.
