I agree there are plenty of other places to get free or at least cheap CEU’s. Our local nursery and landscape association has a really affordable expo in the winter here. Maybe look into that. They are able to yearly hold a conference that is pretty similar to the ASLA conference but at about a quarter the cost. The sessions are not all…[Read more]

I would in the very least take C since it is the easier of the two. You will save some money over waiting until the format starts. If you have time to study take them both and hope that you pass, you never know. The biggest problem in waiting is that you don’t know how the new format will look and right now there is an endless supply of study…[Read more]

There are some churches that have “memorial gardens”, scatter gardens, or niche walls(columbariums). You can also see these things at traditional cemeteries. Owners of these facilities tend to be non-profit organizations. Near me there is the Veterans Admin. cemetery owned by the gov. for military veterans, there is a local evangelical church that…[Read more]

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Available certifications for landscape architects in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 13 years ago
When I first graduated I took the test and got certified by the local state Nursery and Landscape Association. I am sure that your state has something similar. It helped me get my first design/build jobs and I learned some new things while studying. So never hurts, I have been keeping it up since it is cheap and fairly easy.

That is much more effort than I have been used to. I agree make the forum easier to access.

Everyone that I have talked to seems to have increasing workloads also. So maybe or maybe it is just a blip. I know we had quite a few projects on hold that finally went through. So maybe the market is ready for more building???

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Categorizing Chartpak Admarkers in the forum GRAPHICS 13 years ago
I personally take a path of simplification. You do not need 50-100 different colors you only need maybe a dozen. I have shrunk my color selection down and have written down the formula of colors that I render with for different elements. Yes sounds boring, but we are trying to create simple graphics that convey our designs and not trying to…[Read more]

I live in a suburb our small nieghborhood was built in the early 70’s and we are surrounded by houses built in the 80’s and 90’s. 3/4 of our neighborhood is “originals” that built the neighborhood together. They are rightfully really close, built houses, raised kids, vacation, mourn, and celebrate together. Us 2nd/3rd neighborhood generation…[Read more]

Democratic Socialism is a terrible idea. If you give all the control to the government, then it is ripe for exploitation(russia, china, etc). I am not saying we need to live in world without compassion. I am just saying that individuals know best how to allocate their own funds and compassion. I want to decide the house that I buy, the meal that I…[Read more]

Also check out time savers standards for landscape arch and plan graphics by Davis and Walker. I can bet that they are sitting on the shelf at your schools library… If not inter-library loan them.

This is a good chance for you to think out the construction process. The “general construction notes” is the place that you can include all the things that are not spelled out elsewhere on the drawing and are more critical than only being covered by the spec.
