With Donald Trump as her vice president.

Oh, please. Like the GOP is really going to have a viable candidate!
And a GOP president will definitely not bring about green jobs. They want to do away with the EPA, remember.
This is what we get for having a two party system. At least Obama got a few things done. -

Roland Beinert replied to the topic Visiting firms when you're not looking for a job in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 6 months ago
My first job after I got my bachelors degree was with a design/build firm in Reno, actually. Then I worked for a design firm in Boise for a little while before I went back to college.

I see your point, but I won’t graduate till next spring (unless I run out of money after this semester). Of course I am looking for a job. But visiting firms in this case is more about seeing which firms I want to spend the time and energy to apply to, and getting my name out there.
It’s also partly to feel like I’m doing something constructive…[Read more] -

What firms do they generally visit?
I am at U of I getting my masters, but it couldn’t have been my wife, since I’m not married. -

For anyone who wishes they could have seen this, take a look at the panelists for one of the general sessions at the ASLA convention: http://www.asla.org/2011meeting/EdGeneral.html
Mark, I don’t think landscape urbanism and conservation subdivisions are the same thing. Randall Arendt came to U of Idaho a few months ago and gave a talk and a…[Read more] -

I’m pretty sure most thyme lawns a fairly small, but I don’t see why there would be more weeds in a thyme lawn.

I think I’ll end up doing at least a few cold calls. There’s a few firms I’m really interested in in Portland. Unless one of my professors or someone on Land8 knows someone at Alta Planning or Nevue Ngan, I’ll have to just call them up and see what happens, I guess. But I do see your point.

There are so many lawn alternatives out there. I like the look of the ground cover thymes like elfin thyme and woolly thyme.
I found out recntly that roman chamomile can be used as a lawn, too, although I’ve never seen an example. -
Roland Beinert replied to the topic GIS in landscape architecture in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 8 months ago
I’ll be using GIS quite a bit for my thesis. My project is at the city scale, and I think it can be very useful at that scale, assuming the data is accurate. But I had to get a new computer just to run the software. I tried loading the newest version onto my old computer, but it just couldn’t handle it. I got most of my data for free, but some of…[Read more]

That’s true. It can be expensive. Idaho has a website called Inside Idaho, where you can get free data. I think a few other states have similar websites.

I’m considering getting a phd in urban design in Seattle. It would be great if I could find part time work like that while I continued my education. That would probably be the only way I could afford to stay in college, anyway.

Roland Beinert replied to the topic Drawing the line in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 9 months ago
I think urban design is complicated enough that it should probably be done by teams composed of landscape architects, architects, planners, engineers, etc. Ultimately, we need to let go of the idea that urban design “belongs” to one profession and be willing to work together.
I think we LA’s could help solve many urban issues that architects are u…[Read more] -
