Stop by the department and speak to the professors. Tell them exactly what you wrote above. Ask them what they are looking for. Show them the work you have compiled and ask them how it could be approved upon. If they know who you are and that you’re passionate and driven they will be more likely to admit you to the program.
I didn’t get into…[Read more] -

Nice! I saw a Jeep CJ7 this color for sale the other day. It was “Hugger” orange, the same color used on the General Lee in Dukes of Hazard. I wouldn’t think an entire car this color would work but it did. It looked rad.

On the difficulty of landscape architecture education… A picture is worth a thousand words. How’d you like to write a 10,000 word paper every week?

Could you seal them?
It’s necessary to seal hand-seeded aggregate paving in Northern climates… maybe the same application would work on travertine pavers. -

um, yeah… I think Milan is Serbian… maybe we could combine Spanish and Slovic dialects… who knows? Maybe throw a little French or Portuguese in there for good measure. In either case, I think we still need a bit more information in order to help you Milan. Sounds like you need to do more homework in order to understand what you’re dealing…[Read more]

Insightful article. Thank you for sharing your experience, doing the research and saving some of us from the pitfalls of the various MLA programs. The 1.5 year MLA II program sounds like the way to go, if at all possible.

Thomas J. Johnson replied to the topic AutoCAD for Mac in the forum TECHNOLOGY 13 years, 11 months ago
Not bad! If you go with the basic Land F/X and AutoCAD that’s like getting AutoCAD for free… approx. $4200 total. If you go with the Irrigation F/X it would be closer to $5700 for the package. Still a money saver if you don’t have to sub-out irrigation plans at +/- $600 a pop. Now if I sell my car, my touring bicycle, a kidney and donate plasma…[Read more]

Thomas J. Johnson replied to the topic Net-Zero in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 13 years, 11 months ago
That is my problem with claiming net-zero also. It’s literally impossible to calculate every input in a project. How far down the rabbit hole do you go?
Take a 2×4 – Guys went out and cut down a tree. Those guys ate food. The tools they used required energy to manufacture and operate. The tree, after being felled, was trucked to the mill where it…[Read more] -
Thomas J. Johnson replied to the topic Net-Zero in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 13 years, 11 months ago
My understanding of Net-Zero is that after all is said and done, the environmental impact of a construction project is zero. That means that all waste materials are recycled or composted and that carbon production is off-set (purchasing carbon credits, planting trees, etc). It might also mean land-banking, or setting aside land that will never be…[Read more]

Yeah, I woke up on the wrong side of the PC / Mac bed yesterday. Don’t get me wrong, I do love my old Powerbook G4. It’s smooth and sexy. Well, it was, before it’s hard-drive crapped out after 5 years… I also like my desktop PC that cost half as much and has twice the horse-power. It plows through large files and hasn’t given me any problems in…[Read more]

Even cooler than AutoCAD for Mac, “the company also plans to offer a free lightweight AutoCAD WS applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPad that will enable users to view and edit AutoCAD files.”
That would be pretty sweet… wonder if they’re going to develop a free app for the droid market… -

Mr. Cockrum,
Perhaps if four out of six paragraphs in your letter to Mr. Penrod didn’t begin with “I”, he might have given you a more satisfactory response. It was entertaining though…
My favorite part was the closing paragraph, “Given the issues I have addressed, can you offer any suggestions as to how I can hit this moving target? Also, what…[Read more] - Load More
