does this come to you in your dreams, Craig? I personally have nightmares about grading not working properly. Steven King has nothing on these fantasies about possible futures…

I know the topic is extremely speculative, Thomas, but a return to Romanticism does not seem to me to be the trend. I think we are having a rebellion against too many things, combined with a LOT of government projects on the horizon, so I personally see more ‘brutalism’ as it is called, or on a smaller scale, modernism.
That opinion and five b…[Read more] -

I am addicted to walled gardens. I love the possiblities of wall design, gate design, and I love the enclosed space feel. With little trickling water and wet places, of course.

Maybe you don’t live in California, Andrew, where the car is king. I work with several LA’s whose inspiration for the job was to make the entrances to communities look good.
Someone should do a study on the difference between LA from east coast to west coast. West coast is a LOT more plant design, very little site design. East coast is all site…[Read more] -

Plus engineers have unions, LA’s don’t. Makes a big difference for salary. Just try to be a sensitive engineer, not like the guys I have worked with who say things like, “trees don’t belong close to roads.” or “Asphalt is good for vegetation! It’s like fertilizer!”

No, if you want smaller gov. don’t be fooled again by Republican claims (really, it has been like 40 years of lying about that) but stick with the dems who want smarter government. I mean Ryans budget was giving the military all and 300% more, and even the military was saying it didn’t want that. And Romneys budget was just tax cuts for the rich…[Read more]

You miss the point, Jordan. Republicans only talk about smaller government, they don’t DO it. We will be paying for Bush’s unfunded war for the rest of our lives, and it will continue to burgeon,as the Vets get older.
The myth of smaller goverment and republicans doesn’t want to die, they seem to be able to fool us once, and fool us twice (then…[Read more] -

You know, Boilerplater, I think LA’s are done to death with re-building strategies – not that it hasnt been brought up yet, but it has been discussed TO DEATH, over and over and over..for fifty years – when was “Design with nature” published? so at least ten years BEFORE that.
I heard a bureaucrat on NPR this morning say, perhaps building in f…[Read more] -

No, Andrew, that is when all the banks collapsed and had to be bailed out – right then. The collapse happened under Bush. And that is the date. You can look it up..All the other stuff, job losses, etc., is a result of that collapse, and that collapse was caused by unregulated banking, the Bush tax cuts, and the unfunded three trillion dollar war.…[Read more]

The economy bottomed out on Sept. 18,2008, not three years ago, Andrew, and when Obamatook office we were bleeding out 800000 jobs a month. Obama has turned that around slowly and steadily, even with Reublican obstructionism, to our now ADDING jobs each quarter – that is something that worked, in my book, and would have worked better if the…[Read more]

Right, like I quoted, Jordan, “keep your hands off my medicare!” it just works too well for everyone! Your perspective is way too easy on Republicans, as you seem to be not listening to their words (The Ryan Budget, for example) but inventing something from whole cloth. It’s like calling Romney a businessman – the concept of businessman has…[Read more]

so beach replenishment, fire fighting, street repair, housing people during an emergency, keeping the water clean and safe- that should all be done by individual resources? I think what libertarians and repubs don’t get is that they live in a matrix of help, they just can’t see it, and won’t acknowledge it, for some reason. It’s the same old,…[Read more]
