Bottom line, there is no ‘correct’ set of initials. The two most common are R(egistered)LA and P(racticing)LA. The only way there would be a correct set is if your state’s title/practice act spells it out, and most don’t. I started a thread on this a while back and one of the responses is very in de…[Read more]

Sounds like a very “dynamic” site. I believe Jason’s response is a great start. Finding locally sourced used (recycled) firebrick may be a good choice. Of course any recycled material potentially comes with it’s own set of contaminants. Actual sustainability is very difficult to implement… but we must believe it’s possible.
Many source…[Read more] -

Yes, but it is up to us, landscape architects, to try to try to convince the clients… and the whole world…
Here in Europe it is possible to find many grants for the sustainable technologies from the European Union. I think when there is a vision, there must be a way to do it. While searching for possible solutions I found something that looks…[Read more] -

Use of CAD and determining what is best is very user specific. First is whether or not you will be sharing files with others. Second is your and/or your staff’s previous training/experience with programs. Many things fall one way or another after that.

To achieve what you are after you could create marker materials in SketchUp. I have drawn out the swatches myself with Chartpak markers but never got around to scanning them and making them seamless textures. I have done it with pencil crayon as well. Anything that you can take a photo of can be made into a material in SketchUp.
In response to…[Read more] -

Refractory brick, or “fire brick”, is one of if not the the most resistant materials for building. It is what they use to line kilns and industrial smokestacks which are durable under constant exposure to the chemicals you list.
You might be able to use other materials which have a ceramic coating. -

Robert, I was meaning that I do hand render enough to keep my skills sharp, yes I still can do it, but at least for me, it takes some time to remember all the tricks.

As indicated earlier I solved the problem at hand a while back. I tried to replicate the original problem and have not been able to replicate it. I suspect that a random acad error was the culprit, although the file seems to be clean. I did find a few different .lsp routines on line similar to what I described above… but not exactly. If I feel…[Read more]

Francis, those are very nice and what I am looking for, I am looking to do that myself. I would like to use the computer, so I don’t have to start from scratch each perspective. I am looking for a style that looks like AD markers , kind of hand drawn/colored. I know they exist, as I have seen renderings with them, but I can not find…[Read more]

Paul Stafford replied to the topic How To: Planting Plan Tricks? in the forum TECHNOLOGY 12 years, 9 months ago
I totally agree with you – the plan has to be very clear. The example I used above is not the finished plotted plan but is a screen shot from within AutoCAD. It’s not a coloured plan when it plots and I also didn’t show the plant schedule with sizes, descriptions, etc. that help to explain things.
The project is being built now and there has been…[Read more] -

Hi Calico
You’ve probably got this sorted now but if not…
I’m not sure why this has happened but how are you setting the blocks to scale uniformly? In the insert dialogue box…

…or in the block editor?

All my blocks are created to scale uniformly and not explode in the block editor and try as I might I couldn’t get them to be scaled…[Read more] -
