It was a combination of different software.
- photoshop
- illustrator
- High-Logic FontCreator
I printed a character map so I could reference all the characters, numbers, punctuation and symbols I wished to include in the font and hand wrote them several times. I then scanned the image in photoshop. I did the tracings of the best written letters an…[Read more]

Such is the way. I have the same perspective even here where the profession is more established. There is always room for improvement, and recognizing this doesn’t make you negative, it makes you an inquisitive designer.

I simply made a TT font out of my lettering, that way it looks handwritten but it is scalable, auto aligned and editable. It took about 5 hours, but it was worth it. Really personalizes a portfolio. You could then draw a couple of pilot lines with a ruler and scan them, place them on the periphery of the text to really make it look hand le…[Read more]

My writings happen only on trace paper, of no language other than scrambled and frenetic thought for whatever design problem I am currently tasked with. After graduate school, I needed to stop writing about design and actually do it instead, and then perhaps after a couple of years return to writing. I do tend to get on my soapbox from time to t…[Read more]

I’d be interested in some of your writings… what topics have you already covered? Do they warrant any follow up or have you simply exhausted the issues and do not wish to be redundant?
Sometimes redundancy is required to hammer an issue home. -

I would also look the state chapters of the ASLA, such as NY has their own design awards.
Also keep in mind that firms have to submit their designs for recognition in order to win a design award (at least that is my understanding). Some may not even take the time to do so… which means great designs and firms will take a bit more research on…[Read more] -

Here is mine (not up to date). I like this format quite a bit, it has worked for me. I feel as though it exudes my personality in a subtle way. The sketch is from my sketchbook (it is mirrored on my cover letter to tie it together), and handwritten font is actually I truetype font I made of my own handwriting, and so on.
If I had pr…[Read more] -

I would maintain that you would be hard pressed to find another professional association that advances the work of landscape architecture more than ASLA. From national efforts, like meeting with national legislators last week, seeking support on several House and Senate bills up for consideration, which would help provide more work for landscape…

If by typographic resume you mean on a typewriter, that actually may be a really cool way to set yours apart. It would be a pain to revise, but it would look cool, anyway. I have a 1920’s Underwood typewriter that i use sporadically because I love the sounds it makes.
I was given the thing and it was in awful shape, keys gunked, ribbon dried, i…[Read more] -

Simply put, I received a degree in Landscape Architecture and perform Landscape Architecture. Therefore, based on the definition of one who performs Landscape Architecture, I am a Landscape Architect. What I am not, is a Registered Landscape Architect. If I perform work and do not disclose whether I am registered or not I should be held at fau…

What is the issue here? Being a member of the ASLA does not equal a professional license, not even close. I can’t fault them for trying to get as many members as possible as well.
I have no real opinion here on their ability / inability in investing in the quality of the professionals. What would you like to see from them? Would you like to…[Read more] -

I agree with Dave, only adding that you should avoid alliteration at all costs (IE passionate proponent), unless you are being humorous.
Also, as a designer you should be able to make something a little more creative and less pedestrian in layout. I like a watermark of some sort, perhaps something you have sketched… I am not saying it needs to…[Read more] -

I’d go with a billboard. Just big bold letters:
“IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT DOES”You Must be an Idiot.[Name of firm here]
Simple. Tasteful.
