We’re subscribed to Crashplan. Its a little better than carbonite all around imo, reliable, similar framework.
We also maintain our own ftp (w/filezilla) as well as using dropbox and box.net for transfers.

As of now this is only a small project requiring just about 200 face feet of stone, but may turn into a larger endeavor. 

thanks amanda, thats helpful. I have come across a few suppliers in the northwest, mainly for full columns or irregular wall rock. I have found some local suppliers for dimensional basalt but they are shipping it from china.

also ironic that i cant find basalt in basalt.

closest to dark grey im finding is a kansas sandstone, but its expensive with a dimensional cut, flame finish and all..Ironicallt basalt tile from china is hlaf the price of the kansas sandstone and can be cut to virtually any dimension and number of finishes. I need basalt because its for the town of basalt, so in this case the stone is significant.

I worked in an office with 3 engineers and 3 la’s. During client meetings one of our own engineers would jump right on his phone in front of the client group as soon as we started talking about design.

I might argue that its implicit to you and I, but there are lots of new grads that may very well think ‘its all about who you know.’ I dont buy into that philosophy. All this talk about ‘networking’ makes me want to barf a little. We skipped over the step where you become really good at something, ie drawings, construction documents, code research, ecological restortion, etc.

sounds like youre confusing tablets (ipad, galaxy note) with graphics tablets (intuos) and input displays (cintiq, others). I owned the smallest cintig 12wx for a few weeks and didnt like it. way too much focus on technology in my opinion if thats true. Each of those programs take years to become proficient and the practical use of some of those are limited in the professional world, ie dreamweaver, premiere…revit, hmm, max, hmmm. I’m skeptical..

landscapeplanners voice sounds a lot like a former land8 member..There is a difference between design and planning. Design takes a certain amount of ‘letting go’ whereas planning is a highly analytical process. Planning in a more linear, teachable process. Design is more esoteric.

I have recently gotten around to taking and passjng the exam. I woukd suggest, especially being a new grad, for you to focus on design, design thinking, and graphic communication skills for the next few years.

The salary numbers seem about right and havent diverged much from the natl avg a few years ago. One thing to take into consideration is that some of those salaries may be hourly and/or seasonal.
